The Sunday Drive, Rivian Week in Review, August 3 to August 9, 2026

August 3 through August 9. Second shift confirmed, color dates on the calendar, and the Georgia site plans turned out to be a lot more than a factory. Here is the rundown.

Rivian confirmed a second R2 shift by September 30. That is a short runway from where we are sitting right now. More in Rivian Confirms Second R2 Shift by September 30.

Color timing firmed up too. Coastal Cloud and Forest Green land in August, Borealis follows in September. R2 Coastal Cloud and Forest Green in August, Borealis in September.

The Georgia factory site plans came out and there is a museum in there. Trails and cabins too. Not what I expected from a set of site plans, honestly. Rivian Georgia Factory Site Plans Include a Museum, Trails, and Cabins.

A detailer went through an R2 and put out a build quality assessment. Someone who spends all day looking at paint and panel gaps is going to catch things the rest of us miss. Rivian R2 Build Quality Review From a Detailer.

Wrote a piece on how the R2 is designed around what America already buys. The R2 Is Designed for the America People Already Buy.

Also wrote up my argument about buying an EV around the road trip you take twice a year. I have been sitting on that one for a while. Stop Buying EVs for the Trip You Take Twice a Year.

Software side, the full 2026.23 (R1T and R1S0 writeup is here and 2026.24.41 (R2) is here.
