Rivian introduced the 2027 R1T and R1S on Thursday with ordering starting the same day. Captain’s chairs come to the R1S for the first time, which Rivian says has been the most requested interior feature it has had. Esker Silver replaces LA Silver as the no cost paint on both. The trim names also move off motor count and onto the R2 structure, so Dual becomes Premium and Tri becomes Performance, with Quad keeping its name. Base pricing holds at $79,990 on the R1T and $83,990 on the R1S. The recall covers 2025 and 2026 R1S and R1T front turn signal lamps that may not illuminate. NHTSA 26V-508, and it is an expansion of 25V-387 from June of last year. Another 3,829 vehicles built between June 2024 and May of this year got the same incorrectly manufactured lamps, though Rivian puts the actually affected number at under 1 percent of those. Rivian also published its Autonomy+ roadmap Thursday. Most of it repeats what Gen 2 R1 and R2 owners already have, but point to point assisted driving gets a limited rollout later this year with the broad customer rollout targeted for 2027. Adventure Network came third in the JD Power 2026 public charging study, behind IONNA at 807 and Mercedes-Benz at 797, with Rivian at 755. Those were the only three networks eligible this year. Third feels about right. The sites are well located and plug and charge has been reliable for me across all three networks on both vehicles, but RAN coverage is still nowhere near the older networks.
