Rivian Tops Consumer Reports Owner Satisfaction Survey for Third Straight Year

For the third year running, Rivian has landed at the very top of Consumer Reports’ Owner Satisfaction by Brand survey. According to the latest results, 85% of Rivian owners say they would buy their vehicle all over again, which is higher than any other brand surveyed.
That puts Rivian ahead of well known brands like BMW, Subaru, and Tesla. It is an impressive showing, especially for a relatively young automaker that is still scaling production and expanding its service network.
tl;dr
- Rivian ranked number one in Consumer Reports (CR) Owner Satisfaction by Brand for the third year in a row
- 85% of Rivian owners said they would buy a Rivian again, beating BMW, Subaru, and Tesla
- CR notes Rivian owners report high satisfaction despite ongoing reliability issues, common with new automakers
- Rivian ranked 1st in Comfort and Usability, and 2nd in both Driving and Ownership Cost, behind Tesla
- Cabin Storage was Rivian’s weakest area, ranking 5th overall
Consumer Reports notes an interesting contradiction with Rivian owners. While many respondents reported experiencing problems, overall satisfaction remained extremely high. This lines up with what Consumer Reports often sees with new automakers, early adopters are more forgiving when the product delivers something special. As Consumer Reports put it, Rivian sits at the extremes of its surveys, ranking first in owner satisfaction while also landing near the bottom for predicted reliability.
Breaking the results down further, Consumer Reports scores brands across five categories. Rivian topped the chart in Comfort and Usability, highlighting how much owners like the interiors, ride quality, and overall day to day experience. In the Driving category, Rivian finished second, trailing only Tesla, which reflects strong performance, handling, and drivetrain satisfaction.

Rivian placed fifth in Cabin Storage, behind Ram, Tesla, Lincoln, and Chrysler. While the R1T and R1S are known for clever storage like the Gear Tunnel and frunk, owners clearly feel there is still room to improve compared to some competitors. In Ownership Cost, Rivian once again finished second behind Tesla, suggesting owners feel the total cost of ownership is reasonable despite repair issues and service visits.
Overall, the takeaway from Consumer Reports is clear. Rivian owners are extremely happy with their vehicles and loyal to the brand, even as reliability challenges persist. For a company still early in its life, that kind of owner enthusiasm is a big deal and shows why Rivian continues to build such a passionate community.

Love my Gen1 R1T and would do it all over again. Personally, I haven’t had a single issue which needed service.
2025 R1S owner since 11/24. I’m maybe 45% satisfied.
11 service visits. Creaks, unending booming, failure to go into drive, bad shock replaced, half shafts replaced, garbage speakers/joke EQ, phone unlock issues, driver door rubbing, stitching coming loose, no third row heat/AC.
But it’s the headache I get every time I drive it from the booming cabin that is worth about 40%.
17 service center visits in 24 months of ownership (2023 gen 1 R1T), 92 service tickets (excluding routine service visits). Repeat visits. Atrocious NVH for a six figure truck. You can buy a 5 or 6 figure Lexus or bmw or Acura and not have a single service center visit. And the fan club will blame you for expecting more and that it’s new automaker. EV adoption is struggling and piss poor reliability is not helping one bit. Not sure who this survey is surveying. The only positive experience I have is with service center staff – very friendly and kind.
You may want to be contacting your state Attorney General for a Magnuson Moss warranty claim (not lemon) and have the vehicle replaced or bought back.
I feel very conflicted. When the truck is working, it’s amazing to drive and I prefer it over any other vehicle. However, I’ve also had multiple out of service dates, catastrophic HVAC failures, which is responsible for battery cooling as well. I think if this car was not under warranty, then the consumer report satisfaction survey would look different. Right now to me this vehicle feels very similar to a Range Rover in terms of poor build quality and reliability, but ample enjoyment when it works well.
2024 R1T 18 Months of Ownership.
9 service visits and 17 service tickets. Love this truck to death but the reliability issues are brutal and the cost to own is higher than you’d expect. Already had to replace the windshield $1600, alignment $275, and replace the tires $1700. Warranty took care of everything else but when that expires I’m not sure I want to keep it.
2025 R1S owner since 2/25
Just wanted to chime in and balance all the negative reviews. Sometimes the trolls overwhelm the narrative with 9, 11, 17 service center visits? I call BS and exaggeration. Anyway, we’ve owned for almost a year now and have enjoyed the vehicle a lot. We’ve only been in once for something of my own fault when I damaged a side mirror. I just noticed the vehicle is leaking hydraulic fluid, probably from something to do with the air suspension, so I will have my first actual service center visit coming up. Really not that bad for 10 months of ownership.
