Introducing RivianOS 2
RivianOS 2 is our completely reimagined operating system. We've unified Navigation, Media, Energy, and quick controls into a sleek, ultra-intuitive design that transforms how you interact with your vehicle.
- Updated Media app: The enhanced app showcases a richer interface with dynamic hues, improved list view for long-form content, like podcasts and audiobooks, and support for Apple Music, Spotify, TuneIn, and TIDAL.
- Dynamic quick controls: Quick controls and the media player can appear on either side of the center display for easier, more ergonomic access.
- Responsive UI and status bar: Interface elements adapt dynamically within apps, and the redesigned status bar makes key controls easier to reach while driving.
- Redesigned Settings app: The updated app is faster to access, more context-aware, and now includes universal search.
- Vertical status bar: The new vertical status bar displays key vehicle information and gives easier access to frequently used controls and Settings.
- Trip data panel: Similar to the Trip gauge available in Drive modes, the new trip panel available on the driver display shows real-time information on your current drive or trip.
- Weather app: View current conditions, air quality, and a 10-day forecast on the center display, or check weather for a destination in Navigation. Available as part of the Connect+ experience.
- Redesigned owner's guide: The new home page provides quick access to top-level categories, and the search tool adds synonym support and lists popular searches.
Navigation Improvements
We improved Navigation by adding the following:
- Google Maps and Waze user reports on police presence and speed cameras along your route.
- Active trips in the Rivian mobile app that you or others who are drivers on the same vehicle can update before you get in the car and as you drive.
Additional Improvements
- Rivian Assistant now:
- Recognizes spoken punctuation.
- Handles more weather questions (such as those related to forecast for a specific day or time, the weather when you arrive at your next stop, and air quality), and answers them more accurately.
- Improved LTE and Wi-Fi reliability and connectivity status.
- Battery and charging
- Improved low-voltage electrical system fault recovery with controlled retry and shutdown behavior to better support vehicle recovery.
- Updated top-of-charge current thresholds to improve 12V battery management.Gen 1 Only
- For LFP battery packs, improved state-of-energy persistence after a vehicle reset to help maintain accurate energy and range information.
- Fixed an issue that caused the Energy app and related drive widgets to report incorrect overnight session durations.
- Fixed an issue that caused the charging graph to display stale information after connecting to a charger.
- Fixed an issue that caused Media to auto-resume correctly on unlock and approach, but pause again seconds later after the driver entered the vehicle and closed the door.
- Climate
- Climate settings now persist across drive cycles.
- Status icon now shows when the system is in full Auto or manual.
- Improved the accuracy of the vent color in the Climate app.
- Improved the accuracy of the displayed cabin temperature in the Rivian mobile app and in Pet Comfort on the center display.
- Fixed an issue that caused the driver seat to default to heat instead of vent when it was over 100F (38C) outside.
- Fixed a rare issue that caused the doors to lock if a digital key was placed inside the vehicle.Gen 2 Only

Navigation Improvements
We improved Navigation by adding the following:
- Google Maps and Waze user reports on police presence and speed cameras along your route.
- Mobile live trips that you or others who are drivers on the same vehicle can update before you get in the car and as you drive.
Auto-Tilting of Side Mirrors in Reverse
The side mirrors automatically tilt downward when you shift into R (Reverse), offering a clearer view of the curb and rear tires, and they automatically return to their standard position when you shift out of R (Reverse).nnTo enable auto-tilting, go to Settings > Mirrors and steering wheel on the center display and turn on Side mirror auto-tilting.
Dual Glove Box Locks
Added locking controls to the dual glove boxes. To automatically lock the dual glove boxes, close both globe boxes, lock the vehicle, and take the keys with you. To manually lock or unlock one or both of the dual glove boxes, use quick controls or go to Settings > Access > Storage.
Climate
- Added a driver focus vent control to redirect the front vents toward the driver. Choose the passenger-side control to turn driver focus mode on or off, or choose the driver-side control to turn both front vents on or off.
- Improved the accuracy of the displayed cabin temperature in Pet Comfort on the center display.
- Fixed an issue that caused the driver seat to default to heat instead of vent when it was over 100F (38C) outside.
- Improvements to occupant comfort calibrations and system robustness in various environmental scenarios.
Energy app
- Updated trip data on the driver display to show total energy as consumption minus regeneration (energy gained from regenerative braking).
- Fixed an issue that caused the Energy app and related drive widgets to report incorrect overnight session durations.
Vehicle access
- Improved digital key pairing so a subsequent attempt can succeed even if the first pairing fails.
- Fixed a rare issue that allowed a vehicle to lock with a digital key left inside the cabin, such as during loading or unloading.
Phone and messaging
- Improved the reliability of Contacts. The vehicle shows recently synced contacts while your phone reconnects, and it tries to download contacts again instead of waiting for Bluetooth to restart.
- Fixed an issue that caused incoming phone message notifications to be missed.
Media
- Fixed an issue that caused the audio to lag during video playback over Bluetooth.
- Fixed an issue that caused Media to auto-resume correctly on unlock and approach, but pause again seconds later after the driver entered the vehicle and closed the door.
Maintenance
- Added a new rear wiper service mode for cleaning the rear wiper area or replacing the wiper blade. To move the wiper out of its park position, go to Settings > Maintenance > Vehicle service and enable Rear wiper service.
- Increased the default tire rotation reminder interval from 7,500 mi (12,070 km) to 9,000 mi (14,484 km).
Additional Improvements
- Refined traction control calibration for more consistent behavior on low-grip surfaces.
- Fixed an issue that prevented the Gear Guard security system from recording video after the vehicle woke from sleep. (Thanks, imparkerburton, for the report.)
Will fan and temp control be available via the steering wheel controls in Gen 1 R1 vehicles?
Not with this OTA
Can you suggest traffic route coloring like Google maps the miles will turn green amber or red depending on traffic also changes with route selection a MUST for Atlanta navigation using on a daily basis. Thanks Jose.
Nothing compares with Tesla; I hope they will, but for now there isn’t.
These are all good updates for Gen 1 owners. But the most important one is hands-free driving assist at least on highways. Hope they can make it possible or provide any kind of hardware updates like Tesla does. That is truly a valuable update for Gen 1 owners who were also “The early adopters”.
4 cameras on the Gen1 not used for any function.
We’re buying a Tesla. After over 2 years with our Gen 1 it’s officially dead in that aspect. Sadly they lied to all of us.
Get into a new Tesla today it was a cheek to cheek grin the entire time.
being that heads over heels over autopilot is comical. there’s a 100 other reasons Rivian outdoes Tesla. a Rivian simply wasn’t for you

Ok, nice, but did they specifically leave out mentioning Audible? I don’t want to lose that functionality. If they are highlighting audiobooks, it seems odd to drop Audible in this software update.
😆 Looks like my gripe might finally be fixed. I’ve been asking for a basic drivers screen trip meter/odometer for 4 years.

Jose ..since I have the dropped R1S standard battery in my 2026, I’m glad to see some work still happening with the software for that model. But … it’s all word salad to me. I know Out of Spec was unhappy with this battery pack when they had their R1S Standard, but with current software releases, I’ve not seen any issues. What symptom are they attempting to address? Can you provide specific improvement examples to watch for?
Things do seem better with my LFP battery as well in my R1S. I’m not seeing so much inaccuracy, and definitely not the heart stopping sudden drop from 30+ miles range to none, as happened to me once last year. LFP seems pretty fine now, past problems seemingly fixed, similar to your experience.

Hello Jose, 3 1/2 years ownership 2023 R1T Quad
1) Is Map, Trip, or anything configurable on drivers and/or main display?
2) Why doesn’t the map have a scale to show distance while zooming in/out?
3) Ability to show cameras automatically while parking or below a certain speed.
I understand I have old hardware however certain features, some promised, have just never been implemented.
Configuration for the left side at least of the driver display should have been implemented long ago. Too many button presses for screen real estate that is wasted. Even the ability to turn it off to have more of a map with simple information rather than just a box that has little to no value.
I love my Rivian and I love the company, but it’s becoming more of an embarrassment when you see what most all other vehicles have on their dashes. The fact they’ve made the data a smaller font is another kick in the pants. Harder to see, and no real reason why they did it in the first place. Yes, trip kWh, distance, time, etc…

I can help with #3 it does, but only when you approach an item or the car thinks you are parking.
For example pulling into a parking spot surrounded by cars it works, or super close to a pole, it also does this when I pull up to cars while driving.
Oh, and why oh why can’t you edit and name saved locations?

This has got to be my biggest gripe – beside the self driving we were promised as Gen1 buyers.
Does 2026.31 include the dedicated battery health / State of Health (SoH) menu, or is that slated for a later release?
Will R1s maintain camp mode with this update? I use camp mode very frequently… Would be a shame to lose it, even if temporarily
Will this update finally resolve the problem with SiriusXM skipping forward or backward while praying a song? It is very frustrating to be listening to a great song and then it suddenly skips to the next song. If I glance at the signal strength display it always shows a strong signal. Therefore it must be related to the software and not the signal strength.
I’ll tell you what drives me crazy the speed limit no matter how I put my steering wheel. I can’t see why don’t they lower it so it’s in the center left so that no matter where the steering wheel is you can see it through the hole. This drives me crazy every time I take a trip can you please get them to fix that or at least give me an option where to put it. Thank you.
Originally, I was reluctant to install this out of the gate with potential bugs. After reading this, I’m now excited about it. I’m messaging Jose if my R1T bricks. 🙂
How does video playback over Bluetooth work on the R2? They claim that it’s fixed now:

I took that to mean not “video playback over bluetooth”, but “audio playback over bluetooth when the audio is coming from a video”.
Don’t have a Rivian yet but will get my R2 next week. Do they also fix issues that often causes owners to soft or hard reset? I have seen issues in forums where owners had certain problems and after a reset it started working again. I don’t see anything mentioned like “…and other bugs fixed”
are they not bringing R2 to parity with R1 in terms of OS2 capabilities?

Who at Rivian came up with the idea that any R1 driver would prefer to see the weather forecast temperature instead of the actual outside temperature on his center display?
This has to be one of the more ridiculous decisions I’ve seen. Couldn’t agree more that this should be the outside temp, not what Google Maps says it is. Hopefully they make that switch with the next release!
Jesus — they buried Fade/Balance! It used to be three taps, and now it’s three taps, a scroll, and another tap. I use this every single day. Voice commands don’t control it either.
Please let me downgrade the software. Not every UI change is an improvement.
My screen mirroring has not worked since September of last year. Taken it to the service center many times and they have not been able to fix it. They claim that the engineers know it’s a problem but have not fixed it. Don’t understand how other cars work just fine and mine won’t mirror and play video. Only YouTube. Wish they would just make the apps native to the car to watch Hulu or Disney+ etc. my old Tesla had none of these issues.
I appreciate that the new OS will eventually bring parity across the multiple generations and hopefully accelerate development moving forward but holy smokes, it’s awful. Feels like it was programmed // designed with AI. It’s way way too busy. Much worse than before. It now takes me more taps on the screen to get things done. In the age of no physical buttons, for goodness sake, please make it easier. And no, I don’t want to talk to my car to make adjustments.
Only issue ive come across with the update is the cameras. The backup camera seems more squished now and when you are backing up you cant switch between the different modes. This is a major degradation for camera utilization as I always switch back and forth when trying to hug a curb.
I can’t be the only one whose mobile app won’t let me view live cameras and change the charge limit? just picked up my R1T yesterday….
