1. Will fan and temp control be available via the steering wheel controls in Gen 1 R1 vehicles?

   • Not with this OTA

2. Can you suggest traffic route coloring like Google maps the miles will turn green amber or red depending on traffic also changes with route selection a MUST for Atlanta navigation using on a daily basis. Thanks Jose.

3. Nothing compares with Tesla; I hope they will, but for now there isn’t.

4. These are all good updates for Gen 1 owners. But the most important one is hands-free driving assist at least on highways. Hope they can make it possible or provide any kind of hardware updates like Tesla does. That is truly a valuable update for Gen 1 owners who were also “The early adopters”.

   • 4 cameras on the Gen1 not used for any function.

   • We’re buying a Tesla. After over 2 years with our Gen 1 it’s officially dead in that aspect. Sadly they lied to all of us.

     Get into a new Tesla today it was a cheek to cheek grin the entire time.

     • being that heads over heels over autopilot is comical. there’s a 100 other reasons Rivian outdoes Tesla. a Rivian simply wasn’t for you

   Ok, nice, but did they specifically leave out mentioning Audible? I don’t want to lose that functionality. If they are highlighting audiobooks, it seems odd to drop Audible in this software update.

6. 😆 Looks like my gripe might finally be fixed. I’ve been asking for a basic drivers screen trip meter/odometer for 4 years.

   Jose ..since I have the dropped R1S standard battery in my 2026, I’m glad to see some work still happening with the software for that model. But … it’s all word salad to me. I know Out of Spec was unhappy with this battery pack when they had their R1S Standard, but with current software releases, I’ve not seen any issues. What symptom are they attempting to address? Can you provide specific improvement examples to watch for?

   • Things do seem better with my LFP battery as well in my R1S. I’m not seeing so much inaccuracy, and definitely not the heart stopping sudden drop from 30+ miles range to none, as happened to me once last year. LFP seems pretty fine now, past problems seemingly fixed, similar to your experience.

8. “improved list view for long-form content, like podcasts and audiobooks” But I notice Audible is not mentioned. Is it being dropped? I’ve moved from apple podcast to it so I could natively listen on my Riv!

9. Hello Jose, 3 1/2 years ownership 2023 R1T Quad

   1) Is Map, Trip, or anything configurable on drivers and/or main display?

   2) Why doesn’t the map have a scale to show distance while zooming in/out?

   3) Ability to show cameras automatically while parking or below a certain speed.

   I understand I have old hardware however certain features, some promised, have just never been implemented.
   Configuration for the left side at least of the driver display should have been implemented long ago. Too many button presses for screen real estate that is wasted. Even the ability to turn it off to have more of a map with simple information rather than just a box that has little to no value.

   I love my Rivian and I love the company, but it’s becoming more of an embarrassment when you see what most all other vehicles have on their dashes. The fact they’ve made the data a smaller font is another kick in the pants. Harder to see, and no real reason why they did it in the first place. Yes, trip kWh, distance, time, etc…

   Thank you Jose for what you do. I appreciate your well detailed presentations.

   • I can help with #3 it does, but only when you approach an item or the car thinks you are parking.

     For example pulling into a parking spot surrounded by cars it works, or super close to a pole, it also does this when I pull up to cars while driving.

    • This has got to be my biggest gripe – beside the self driving we were promised as Gen1 buyers.

11. Does 2026.31 include the dedicated battery health / State of Health (SoH) menu, or is that slated for a later release?

12. Will R1s maintain camp mode with this update? I use camp mode very frequently… Would be a shame to lose it, even if temporarily

13. Will this update finally resolve the problem with SiriusXM skipping forward or backward while praying a song? It is very frustrating to be listening to a great song and then it suddenly skips to the next song. If I glance at the signal strength display it always shows a strong signal. Therefore it must be related to the software and not the signal strength.

14. I’ll tell you what drives me crazy the speed limit no matter how I put my steering wheel. I can’t see why don’t they lower it so it’s in the center left so that no matter where the steering wheel is you can see it through the hole. This drives me crazy every time I take a trip can you please get them to fix that or at least give me an option where to put it. Thank you.

15. Originally, I was reluctant to install this out of the gate with potential bugs. After reading this, I’m now excited about it. I’m messaging Jose if my R1T bricks. 🙂

16. How does video playback over Bluetooth work on the R2? They claim that it’s fixed now:
    “Fixed an issue that caused the audio to lag during video playback over Bluetooth”

    • I took that to mean not “video playback over bluetooth”, but “audio playback over bluetooth when the audio is coming from a video”.

17. Don’t have a Rivian yet but will get my R2 next week. Do they also fix issues that often causes owners to soft or hard reset? I have seen issues in forums where owners had certain problems and after a reset it started working again. I don’t see anything mentioned like “…and other bugs fixed”

18. are they not bringing R2 to parity with R1 in terms of OS2 capabilities?
    they should’ve held the upgrade until they unified the stack

19. Who at Rivian came up with the idea that any R1 driver would prefer to see the weather forecast temperature instead of the actual outside temperature on his center display?

    • This has to be one of the more ridiculous decisions I’ve seen. Couldn’t agree more that this should be the outside temp, not what Google Maps says it is. Hopefully they make that switch with the next release!

20. Jesus — they buried Fade/Balance! It used to be three taps, and now it’s three taps, a scroll, and another tap. I use this every single day. Voice commands don’t control it either.

    Please let me downgrade the software. Not every UI change is an improvement.

21. My screen mirroring has not worked since September of last year. Taken it to the service center many times and they have not been able to fix it. They claim that the engineers know it’s a problem but have not fixed it. Don’t understand how other cars work just fine and mine won’t mirror and play video. Only YouTube. Wish they would just make the apps native to the car to watch Hulu or Disney+ etc. my old Tesla had none of these issues.

22. I appreciate that the new OS will eventually bring parity across the multiple generations and hopefully accelerate development moving forward but holy smokes, it’s awful. Feels like it was programmed // designed with AI. It’s way way too busy. Much worse than before. It now takes me more taps on the screen to get things done. In the age of no physical buttons, for goodness sake, please make it easier. And no, I don’t want to talk to my car to make adjustments.

23. Only issue ive come across with the update is the cameras. The backup camera seems more squished now and when you are backing up you cant switch between the different modes. This is a major degradation for camera utilization as I always switch back and forth when trying to hug a curb.

24. I can’t be the only one whose mobile app won’t let me view live cameras and change the charge limit? just picked up my R1T yesterday….

25. I sent this to Rivian. Nobody’s responding. Jose, do you anything about this issue? Can you put in the word?

    Dear Rivian Support Team,

    I am writing to express my frustration regarding the performance of the Rivian mobile app on Android, specifically on my Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

    The app is currently in an unplayable state: it constantly freezes, fails to load, and does not function properly at least 80% of the time. It is very disappointing to see the iOS version perform smoothly while the Android version remains consistently unreliable.

    As a loyal Rivian owner for over three and a half years, I have noticed the app’s performance becoming progressively worse rather than improving. Given the size and resources of the company, Android users should have a much better experience than this.

    Could someone please let me know if there are active bug fixes or updates being worked on to resolve these issues for Android devices?

26. I am so thoroughly disgusted with the Rivian r1s operating system 2 update 2026.310 that it makes me want to get rid of the R1S! I drive a Gen 1 2023 Rivian R1S Quad. They messed this OS update up the same way the messed up the R2 itself! Like the R2 seats being resized smaller and thus uncomfortable despite being padded more!

    Things like removing the grip handles for people to get in an out of the vehicle and for handholds while manuvering! Or things like not including a sun shade roof slider to protect people and the interior of the vehicle from the sun! Something that should have been figured out as a third generation vehicle by now! Also, having the rear seats not be reclinable; forcing an uncomfortable standard seating angle, or the head rest being tilted forward and pushing your head down! This new operating system is a massive downgrade from the previous user interface!

    1) Rivian made a major blunder by designing this operating system for the R2, and then not actually re-designing the user interface for the screen sizes of the R1S. The operating system is not scaled to the R1S screen size meaning that when you go to the air conditioning screen or the settings menu screen the size of the interface is too small for the R1S and leaves large edges on the right, bottom and left sides that should not be there! Due to the smaller screen real estate this also means that you have to do so much more scrolling to get through your menus:

    • 2) For instance equalizer and sound settings screen now requires scrolling through multiple screens to adjust the 3D Surround Sound enhancements as well as to adjust the Dynamic Sound Adjust enhancements. I don’t like how the new menu car icon settings screen wants to default to the audio tab when I have the bluetooth connected to my phone, the controls for the rest of the vehicle are way more important than having that on the quick features panel under the car icon!

    • 3) I really don’t like how the music tab takes you to an equalizer showing the volume levels of what is playing live as the main screen. I would prefer the equalizer and sound adjustment screen to be the main screen. Then that screen could be a secondary screen that is navigated to.

    4) I definitely do not like the menu bar being on the left side compared to what it was before where you actually had the entire menu bar across the top of the screen. The menu bar eats into the screen real estate by being a floating slightly transparent bar that sits away from the edge of the screen! It actually has features that show less information (Such as using intials instead of a first name for the profile).

    5) Another issue with how the menu bar is set up is that it’s position is actually blocked from your line of sight if you have your hand on the right side of the steering wheel! So basically from the notification icon and below your vision is blocked! The most important menu icons are placed on the bottom part of this menu instead of the top part of the menu! There is no way for the user to rearrange this menu or reposition the menu bar so that it is in a position that makes sense to them!

    6) There is supposed to be a show quick controls and park feature when the feature is turned on but when I stop and hit the park button this feature menu doesn’t actually pop up so the menu stays hidden and I have to go and actually select the car icon on the menu for it to pop up!

    7) This is not the only feature selection within the access menu tab which doesn’t work when selected or deselected! Also, when it comes to the Automatic Camera selection the Reverse to Forward de-selection button still has the camera automatically go from the reverse view to the front view. I like to have my reverse view on so that I can see what is behind me from pulling out in a parking spot and merging with traffic, but this feature was not working prior to this update so I was hoping that Rivian had fixed this issue but it still exists with this update! I do not need the car automatically switching my designated camera view!

    8) I am also disgusted by the new overhead camera view on the Gen 1 Rivian R1S. The camera quality on the Gen 1 is the worst which is enhanced by the greater surface area being stitched toghether in this magnified view! Yes, it is cool that there is more area that is being shown, but this makes it harder to actually see what is around me because the image is blurrier and distorted due to the fish eye lenses on the Gen 1 R1S being stitched together.

    9) The floating menu bar now eats into the space on the camera view page which pushes the camera view further over to the right and makes it so that the wider screen view of the forward or reverse camera is now narrowed and elongated vertically! I definently preferred the previous view as well as the controls for switching the camera views as the position was easier to reach!

    10) There are some positives about the new interface like having a search bar in the settings menu or being able to set the Passive Entry unlock or lock feature to individually allow key fobs or phones to work with that feature but:

    • For some reason Rivian has not figured out that for a vehicle meant to go off the beaten path they need to include on the navigation screen the ability to mark a location. Not only would you be able to navigate to that location but then you should be able to set that location as your home location or work location so the proximity locking feature can be deactivated for a location that is not specifically marked by Google Maps already. My home for instance is not on Google Maps, so I currently cannot use the proximity locking disable feature for the location since it won’t recognize this as a location on the Rivian Navigation system.

    • 11) Since we are on the topic of the Navigation screen, I do don’t like how the new navigation screen is missing the settings button. Now to adjust the settings in the navigation you have to go to the settings button on the floating menu then scroll to Navigation to adjust the navigation settings.

    12) It is cool that Rivian included the ability to set the Liftgate brightness to two different levels:

    • 13) As a side note: I would love if Rivian would introduce multi-level heating to the steering wheel, as the standard heating level is too hot to continously leave on to keep the hands warm!

    • The issue with Liftgate Brightness is that the LED’s start making humming noises on the lower brightness level setting, thus I don’t use it!

    14) I don’t like the swipe to close feature on certain windows because you can be scrolling up or down and then slightly move over to left or right and then accidentally close the window that you’re currently trying to be in.

    15) For the Air Conditioning controls, I do not like the new graphics when it comes to displaying the air being on or the heat being on. For instance the steering wheel showing as being heated looks like a blur on the the screen because of the way it is layered. The same applies to the white outlines for the vents and the the blue for the air flowing from the vents.. It makes it hard to actually see the position of the setting due to the blur now showing on the screen with the layering!

    16) I would prefer to also have the settings button return to the lower menu button on the screen. This way there are two ways to navigate to the settings as the bottom of the screen is supposed to display recent apps as well as all the apps.

    17) Another thing that really irritates me as well with this update is that I noticed that the ride softness changed though the update doesn’t specify any changes were made! I normally am driving under All Purpose mode with my ride height set to standard the Ride Feel set to soft, Regeneration to standard, Stability set to the most stable. So the right softness does not feel as soft as it did before!

    I went and restarted the whole system and still had the issue present. I went through and set the settings to Off Road put the ride height all the way to the highest setting then went to On Road Sport mode and dropped the ride height to its lowest setting then returned it All Purpose mode and set my ride height back to Standard and Ride Feel to Soft and still it didn’t actually become good though it became a bit better but it didn’t feel like it felt before so now I can feel much more the bumps and undulations in the road than I could feel before.

    If I roll onto something like bump or a pothole I can really feel it and lateral movement going around corners makes the car buck harder now! So the suspension is rougher like driving a 2021 to 2023 Tesla Model Y!

27. Will the seatbelt indicators from the R2 make it into my gen1 R1T & R1S? I’d love to know whether the 3rd row passengers are buckled. I don’t see it in the interface after the update. Is there an option to enable? Or is it not possible in G1?

28. 2026.31 update. How to turn off proximity locking? Is it possible to revert back to previous update?
