Video – Why Rivian’s New Security Feature Might Catch You Off Guard

Rivian just rolled out Multi-Factor Drive, a new security feature that requires you to approve driving from your phone before the vehicle can start. It’s a big step for security, but it might not be ideal in every situation.

In this video, I walk through how it works, share some pros and cons, and explain why losing your phone on a trail could become a real problem.

Let me know what you think, smart upgrade or unnecessary hassle?

  1. Just a negative. Hopefully it will be optional so I can not use it. Software improvements are auto drive and the ability to rotate or install tires without driving 2 hours to the Rivian center would have been very useful!!!!

  2. Did we really need that over reading/replying text support? How about the ability to roll all windows COMPLETELY up & COMPLETELY down from the app. Could split the control buttons in half: Open Hood / Drop Tailgate, Vent Windows / Roll Down Windows, Open Gear Tunnel L / Open Gear Tunnel R, Open Charge Port Door / Open Tonneau, and I guess make the Sound Alarm button its own. I don’t know why you would need to sound the alarm. Lemme get out my phone open my app goto control screen scroll down and sound my alarm… never mind i’m dead.

    • The alarm is likely if you see your vehicle in a precarious situation you can sound it to deter it.
Most times a honk is enough for the culprit to know someone is watching.

  4. Totally agree Jose. The MFA is something I will not use unless there’s a backup. Infact last week my IPhone 15 had its screen touch functionality broken. Took it to the Apple Store. They had to send it to an offsite facility. Took a week to get it back. In the meantime, I they gave me a backup phone but since I have only a corporate number, it took me 2 days to actually get my number mapped to the back phone eSIM. The last thing I would want it a car that I can’t drive while I’m out of a phone.

Come on Riv — you can do better than this. Love the other updates in the 2025.18 release.
