Rivian’s Teen Mode and Valet Mode are coming in early 2027 to the R1T, R1S, and R2, and Wassym Bensaid shared more details with The Drive about how Teen Mode will work.
It’s tied to driver profiles, so you can set up your teenager’s profile with restrictions while everyone else in the house drives normally. If your kid enters their real age when they register in the app, Rivian will put them in Teen Mode automatically.
The settings come in categories, like limiting horsepower, turning off access to off-road modes, and whether stability control can be turned off. Wassym said there will be five to ten of them, and you won’t be able to pick an exact number like 500 hp. He compared the screen to RAD Tuner, with sliders and toggles.
You’ll also be able to assign a key fob or key card to a specific profile, and changing any of it will need a password, so a teen can’t just grab the fob off the counter and get around it.
Valet Mode is separate and lets you lock the frunk, gloveboxes, and other closures.
Rivian first talked about Teen Mode in an earlier AMA, and in May Wassym said they pushed it back to rebuild it on cloud profiles and digital key. I expect it to work the same on R1 and R2 since both use that profile system, and I’ll share more with you all as soon as it shows up in release notes.
