Digital Key Is Coming to Gen 2 Rivian Vehicles in the 2025.46 Update

Wassym from Rivian shared that Digital Key support is officially coming to Gen 2 vehicles with the 2025.46 OTA update later this month. Your Rivian key will now live natively inside Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Samsung Wallet, with UWB for high precision, native watch-support, and NFC unlocking if your phone battery dies.

Also coming with 2025.46: Rivian is updating how exterior-camera data is collected. The system will use your saved locations (home, work, favorites, etc.) to block image capture at private spots, though you can still opt out completely if you’d like. This aims to improve features like low-speed parking assist, active safety, and future autonomy while respecting privacy settings.

  1. It would be nice to have more integration with phone capabilities. Ex text messaging, calendar, etc

  2. Great for Gen 2. When can Gen 1 expect these great updates? It sucks to read all these great feature coming to Gen 2 and and only get minor updates for Gen 1. Don’t forget the OG group who jumped in Rivian early.

    • It’s a 5 year old platform. It also doesn’t have a huge amount of GPU processing power nor the new low power NFC sensors. I think the reality is they will never be able to bring many of these features to Gen 1.

      • Yes, BUT, gen1 was produced through model year 2024. For some, gen1 is not even 2 years old. That said, I’m of the opinion that you don’t buy something with the promise of future updates. I’m a happy 2023 R1T owner who’s grateful for any updates that come my way. When it comes to autonomy, Comma AI is the way to go for gen1.

  3. How about some (any) highway assist driving in Hawaii???? Even “Interstate” yeah I know, highways don’t have any “lane keeping” ?????

  4. With Rivian fully transitioning to its own autonomy hardware and software, how do you think this will influence other EV manufacturers in the race for end-to-end autonomous vehicle integration?

  5. Gen1 R1T owner and have been incredibly excited about the numerous and meaningful updates to my vehicle over time. It is a truly amazing vehicle and enjoy it every time I get behind the wheel!

The growing difference between G2 and G1 vehicles was always a given. That is why they are different generations. People who expect parity between vehicles across different generations are not living in reality. Happens across apple products, Microsoft, you name it. Technology will advance and certain features will only flow to the newest products.

We live in a time that we are lucky that additional features continue to appear on our vehicles even years after we purchase them.
