Rivian Details the Safety Metrics Behind Autonomy Early Access Selection

Rivian added a new question to its Autonomy Early Access FAQ today spelling out which safety metrics it looks at when picking owners for Point-to-Point, and forward collision warnings and collision events are both on the list along with other safety metrics it doesn’t name.

On top of your driving record, Rivian is also balancing the group by region and vehicle model, so a clean record doesn’t guarantee you a spot if there are already plenty of owners like you in the program.

The forward collision warnings are the part I’d keep an eye on, since that alert can go off when someone cuts in front of you or brakes hard, and if you’ve been seeing a lot of them lately it could work against you.

It doesn’t stop once you’re in either, because Rivian rechecks safety and participation every 30 days and can remove you from the program if your record slips. Participants also sign an NDA that covers the preview features, program details and any feedback they share, so don’t expect testers to be posting Point-to-Point drives once it starts.

If you haven’t signed up yet, the tile is still rolling out to Gen 2 R1 and R2 owners with Autonomy+, and Rivian is using that interest to figure out where Point to Point goes after California and Florida.

My R1S is in Florida and I’ve already put in my interest through the tile, so I’ll let you all know if I get selected ahead of December, though the NDA means that may be about all I can share until Point to Point opens up more broadly.
