RJ posted a video to Instagram yesterday from the Normal, Illinois plant showing an R2 in Borealis with the Coastal Cloud Signature interior coming off the line. It’s the first look at the color on a production R2.
Borealis isn’t available to order yet. The R2 configurator still lists it as Coming September at $2,000, and Rivian says ordering opens later this month.
It’s the last piece of the R2 color rollout. Rivian confirmed to me in early August that Coastal Cloud and Forest Green would come first with Borealis in September. Both opened to early access buyers in mid August and went live for all R2 buyers this week, leaving Borealis as the only exterior color still waiting.
Borealis will be available with the Launch Package, the only R2 configuration Rivian is selling right now. That’s a reversal from April, when Rivian said the color would skip the Launch Edition.
Rivian hasn’t said whether Borealis on R2 will be a limited run like it was on R1. If you’re holding out for it, ordering should open in the next few weeks.
So sick! I’ve had that exact trim in my configurator for months. My order window has been open since mid-August. It’s just around the corner.
I swear if they got rid of the goofy looking headlight design they would sell better.
I used to think they were goofy headlights. It’s one of my favorite features now. The vehicle is so well designed and understated, the headlights were the perfect way to give it a unique hallmark look.
