Atlanta Fire Rescue has added an all-electric Rivian R1T to its fleet, built out by Patrol EV as a Quick Intervention vehicle for the department’s Quick Intervention Crew.
The idea behind a Quick Intervention unit is getting to medical calls fast without rolling out a full-sized fire engine every single time. Trained firefighter and paramedic personnel can reach a scene quickly with the equipment they need to start care before the larger apparatus arrives, and running a smaller electric vehicle for that role cuts down on operating costs, emissions, and wear on the primary engines that a department really needs to preserve.
Patrol EV, a division of EV Sportline that builds electric vehicle upfits for law enforcement, fire, EMS, and government fleets, handled the full conversion. The core of the build is a dedicated auxiliary power system that runs the emergency lighting, sirens, and communications gear while integrating with the Rivian platform. On top of that the vehicle carries a complete Federal Signal lighting and siren package for visibility and audible warning during responses.
Storage was a big focus. Patrol EV fabricated a custom rear bed rack with an integrated backboard cargo box for patient transport equipment, and fitted a tactical center console inside the cabin for radios, controls, and daily response gear. A heavy-duty front push bar adds durability along with a mounting point for additional warning devices.
The vehicle also runs EV Sportline running boards for easier cab entry and exit, and Team 1EV steel wheels chosen for durability and serviceability in fleet use.
Patrol EV frames the project as part of a broader move toward electrifying public safety fleets, pointing to medical response, command, investigation, and support roles as good candidates for electric vehicles. The Atlanta Fire Rescue R1T is now entering regular service.

That setup looks like a good lifeguard vehicle as well.
