  1. Lame. Smart charging and “bug fixes”. Smart charging seems like the most worthless feature as you can already set charging schedules. This is a small, lame update.

      • As somebody paying 179 a year or whatever the driver plus is, I would say that that’s a pretty hefty annual price tag for nothing updates. And I’m still waiting on the features promised when this vehicle was purchased… Say nothing of an absent set of features they’ve already acknowledged won’t happen. Of course, if you’re a fan boy, nothing Rivian does is wrong so please go enjoy your R1

        • Classic minimalism and entitlement syndrome. These are real and helpful updates made by a hard working team. Reassess your priorities. Take a walk. You sound grumpy.

        • You aren’t paying a fee for updates or autonomous driving. Rivian only charges for Connect+, which is the data service and isn’t required for these updates.

          • Love my Rivian and want some of the hardware feature rich options to be available. Example, When will we get V2H? This is a feature that can be very beneficial especially with onboard hardware already capable.

        • You sound like a positive person. The company is continually improving their product and you’re complaining like a toddler. Like someone else said you’re paying for data connection not the free updates. Do all Rivian owners a favor and sell yours, buy an X5 and go to the BMW forums…you’ll fit in better.

        • Greg, do you need help? Maybe a hug? Are you one of those Cybertruck guys that got nothing that was promised when it was first announced.

You know driver plus is the cell service package right?

          • Listen fanboy Brad – See my response below about what it means to compete in EV space. I’m a Rivian owner and holding the company accountable. And no – driver+ is not only cell service (priority updates and other non-data features).

        • You can remotely view the cameras from anywhere with plus. Also hotspot on demand anywhere.

      • Several of these sound useful, like highway assist availability, lane centering improvements, not disengaging with minor corrections, storing the key, improved range estimates, command responsiveness when asleep, without trying 4 times, quieter climate, better 12V monitoring (a concern). Door handles presenting in car wash mode is worrying, though, as I use that mode in the local touchless car wash to avoid stuff accidentally activating.

    • This is beyond setting a schedule. You grant access to. Weavegrid and they “work” with your power utility to optimize and balance when vehicles charge. In my 100 house sub there are about 20 EV’s and is they all started charging at the start of off-peak that could stress the grid. I’ve been doing this with my Tesla. If you really need to charge you can override.

  2. I like the idea of co-steer. It’s maddening when the truck insists on staying in the middle of the lane instead of giving a little extra space on either the left or the right when passing.

  3. The fact that Rivian is listening to its customers and able to make updates on the regular is not that lame,….

  4. Can someone help me understand why the Gen 2 audio improvements aren’t also coming to Gen1? Isn’t the Elevation system capable of these improvements?

    • That’s because Elevation is already much better than Gen 2 Audio which is what this is targeting. Gen 2 Audio is shite so it will most likely be a little bit better now.

Watch out for Rediitt when this update rolls out since a lot of Rivian owners will be there rejoicing the better audio.

  5. Don’t worry, next update will be filled with pumpkin and skeleton animations. Rivian putting that VW money to good use.

  6. I’m with Greg here. Rivian software is not even minor league. So many fundamental items don’t work way too often. VW is screwed if they are using Rivian for their software. I have an 8 month old R1S and a 2024 model Y

    • I’m with Bo. The one big software addon I really want is YouTube music. Now that Google Maps made its appearance, here’s hoping YTM is coming.

Wouldn’t say no to an SDK for custom apps either.

  7. Getting monthly improvements for the past 2 years, no matter how small they are, is the best thing since sliced bread. I just wish Rivian would pay more attention to life changing features like V2H and V2V. Especially during hurricane season and with the winter season coming about.

  8. I don’t get that climate control settings stock to a position that you can’t change. Driver’s side vent doesn’t turn off.

  9. Any word when we can expect a cruise control RESUME button? It was on the development list at the beginning of 2025.

  10. Glad they continue to tune things up. The vehicle is certainly better than when I got it a few years ago. I’ve never driven a Tesla, but my wife has a Volvo EX90. One software update in 9 months of ownership, which caused her to lose some of the functionality the system previously had. She has voice to text through CarPlay and the Google System, which works maybe 50% of the time because the software doesn’t activate the car’s microphone. Also, they haven’t turned on the LiDAR yet which was an attractive safety feature with this vehicle. Additionally, it cost a good bit more than the Rivian. None of these companies are perfect, but I appreciate that Rivian is generally responsive and continuing to improve our vehicles, even if it seems like it is by small steps.

  11. Think of the updates this way. 10 years ago, when you bought a car, you never expected an update. You drove it off the lot and that was that. Today, we have vehicles, both gen 1 & 2 that have added features that didn’t exist when you bought the car.

Yes, Rivian could have been and should be more clear with the limits of gen 1. As a former owner I got bummed seeing gen 1 updates and missing out on the cool stuff. But you by a vehicle for what it does today, now what you expect it to do in the future.

Are we still waiting for certain things like messaging? Yes! But software development is tricky. As a software developer something that seems simple is usually complex. How do you know these other improvements aren’t mandatory to get those future things.

Instead of being upset with what is released, understand that running a billion dollar business is… tough. I challenge any one of us to be in RJ or Wassym’s roles and do better. Can they do better? Absolutely! But it’s not like they are malicious people trying to screw customers over.

Knowing everything I do know today, I still would have bought my gen 1, still would have bought my gen 2 and still would have put a deposit on a R2. I believe in the brand, and I think they are good people trying to make a difference in a business that is extremely difficult.

  12. These two items is so overdue

    – Cabin conditioning requests from the app work consistently on first attempt

    – Better mobile command responsiveness while asleep

  13. Most of you miss the point. Rivian is competing with Tesla – where software updates are the standard. Rivian has a huge gap vs. Tesla.

Rivian is not going after BMW – they’re aiming for EV buyers and charging a premium. You can be happy and I’m glad you are happy with what you have today. But name calling and fanboy defending Rivian, rather than point out the gaps they need to CLOSE is only going to cause their stock to go the way of Lucid and Fiskar. Then no updates. No service. Good luck.

Rivian needs to catch up. Their software is mediocre+. Missing features and driver plus is a joke. It has potential. The updates are nice when they are not lame. And this update for gen 1 …. Is lame.

    • Name calling? I count 4 people you called fanboy. And each of them had valid points. Rivian IS closing the gaps. What exactly do you think all these updates do?? And btw – updates are coming about every 5-6 weeks and this next one looks to be packed with new features. I think that you, sir, are the one who’s missing the point.

  14. Wait so gen 1 is not gonna get any highway updates for driverless? What the actual f$&k. When I bought my gen 1 I was promised full self driving with updates. Did RJ lie to us?

    • 1000000%

      We got screwed.

Can we have a text app and Pandora.
Along with the other stuff that has been promised…

    • No you absolutely were not. During most of the Gen 1 deployment Rivian specifically said they were not pursuing full self driving. There were some odd posts here and there that could have been misinterpreted due to wishful thinking….but nobody promised FSD on a Gen 1 Rivian.

      • Except that is not really true. You are correct that it does not say “full self driving” but I’m still waiting for my automatic lane change my G1.
        From Rivan’s website in 2021 (https://web.archive.org/web/20210509023626/https://rivian.com/r1s#driver):
“With Driver+ engaged, your vehicle will automatically steer, adjust speed, and change lanes on your command. Driver+, like all driver assistance systems, requires your full attention on the road. You should not use a hand-held device behind the wheel.”

        And as to specific roads:
“Active Driving Assistance will be enabled on select highways at launch with more road types introduced over time.”

  15. Coming from a Tesla model S, the full self driving is cool but not something you are going to use that often. I would honestly be happy with text notifications and voice to text.
