Rivian Unveils Borealis, A New Limited Edition Purple for R1S and R1T

Back in January, Rivian fans spotted a purple R1S driving around California, sparking a lot of speculation about whether it was a one off or something more. Nearly a year later, Rivian has confirmed it was very real and officially announced a new limited edition color called Borealis.

Borealis is a deep metallic plum inspired by the edges of the Earth, and it is easily one of the boldest colors Rivian has offered so far. The color shifts depending on lighting, sometimes subtle and dark, other times rich and eye catching.

The Borealis paint carries a $3,000 upcharge and is available on both the Rivian R1S and R1T in Tri and Quad motor configurations. Quad models are the only ones that receive the special Gear Guard badge on the rear, featuring Gear Guard wearing a purple vest, and they are also the only variants that can be spec’d with the new bronze wheel options.

Those wheel choices include the 22-inch Sport Bronze wheel, already available on Quad builds, and a new 20-inch All-Terrain Burnished Bronze wheel that pairs especially well with the plum exterior. Inside, Rivian ties the package together with matching interior accents that complement the exterior without feeling over the top.

What do you think of Rivian’s new Borealis purple? Would you drive an R1S or R1T in this color, or is it a little too bold for your taste?

You can order this limited edition Rivian starting today at 12 PM by visiting Rivian.com.

  1. Love it!
I had joked when I ordered my R1T why there weren’t brighter colors, like why not a crazy plum purple?
    I would have ordered this.
