Rivian Is Now the Second Best-Selling EV Brand in the US

Rivian outsold every EV brand except Tesla in the US during Q3 2026, jumping from sixth place in Q2 to second, according to the corrected sales report Cox Automotive published with Kelley Blue Book.

Rivian’s estimated 19,239 sales put it about 6,300 units ahead of Toyota at 12,904, with Cadillac at 12,358 and Hyundai at 12,185 right behind. Chevrolet, which led every non-Tesla brand in Q2 with 14,908, fell to 10,031.

Three months ago Rivian’s 11,405 sales trailed Chevrolet, Hyundai, Cadillac and Toyota. As I covered in yesterday’s Q3 breakdown, commercial vans added 4,466 units over Q2 and R2 added 3,456 in its first quarter in the data, while R1 held roughly steady.

Rivian holds second for the year too at 41,009, just ahead of Hyundai at 39,121. That lines up with registration data from June, when Rivian moved past Hyundai into second for the month.

This is a brand ranking, so if you group by parent company, GM’s 25,473 EVs across Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC and Hyundai Motor Group’s 22,254 across Hyundai, Kia and Genesis still put Rivian third for the quarter.

Rivian needs roughly 23,200 deliveries in Q4 to hit the low end of its full-year guidance, and with most of R2’s ramp still ahead, I fully expect it to hold second for the full year. Owning both an R1S and an R2, I can see why buyers keep landing on Rivian while the rest of the market pulls back.
