Rivian R2 Configure Emails Ramp Up One Week After Launch

One week after the official R2 launch and Rivian is sending configure invites at a faster pace. The first few days it was a slow trickle. Now it is picking up, so if you have a reservation and you have been wondering when your turn comes, it is probably close.
Mine showed up yesterday. The timing worked out, and I am already set on a Launch Green R2 Performance. It is a strange feeling actually.
A few things worth knowing if your invite is not here yet.
Not every option is available right now. If you want something that is not live at launch, like the Coastal Cloud interior, the white one, you can still submit your build request for it and Rivian will let you know when it opens up. You just have to be willing to wait on it.
If you do not want to wait, you can switch your build over to whatever is available now and move yourself closer to delivery. For those configs Rivian is estimating 2 to 8 weeks. That is a big spread, and it stays big because it comes down to stuff you do not really control. Your trim, your color, where you live, how the line is running that week.

The reaction online has been fun to watch. Reddit, the Discord, all the usual spots, full of people posting their configure emails and going back and forth on trims and colors. A lot of these folks have been holding reservations for a long time, so the excitement makes sense.
Anyway, that is about where things stand right now. The pace is up, and the real decision most people are facing is whether to wait on the exact build they want or take a close one to get the car sooner. If your email is not here yet, give it a little time. From the way this week has gone it does not look like it is slowing down.

I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum. My R1T lease expires in November 2027.
I wonder if Rivian takes that into consideration if I place an order today with Coastal Cloud interior. It seems like a good thing to know what the true demand is for forecasting.
Thanks for updating this. Ive been actively following the Reddit Order update posts and man they have been crazy. The ‘random’ folks getting invited who just placed an order last week or months ago getting invites over us been loyal waiting for 2.5 years now. Its kinda messed up but guess we have to eat that crow. I get it when its inviting folks around the country but here in NorCal it makes no sense.
I’m with you on this. A bit bummed out about how many 2025-26 orders have got their invites. I understand it’s for data collection and delivery metrics for different regions etc, but it seems wild how many of them are going out (at least visible on the online trackers). in comparison.
My guess is that they are heavily emphasizing leases expirations because those customers have signaled an expiring clock to Rivian.
Good post, as usual.
Does anyone know the right action for those of wanting to wait for the Gen 3 hardware? I asked my guide during a test drive, but he didn’t know. In fact, he asked *me* to let him know what I hear when the invite hits my inbox.
Currently driving on r1t. But I would like to add the r2 to my stable. But I need light interior dark interior is just a no-go and 110° Southern Utah summer.
Currently drive in an r1t. But would love to add the r2 to my garage. Unfortunately dark interior just doesn’t work in 110° Southern Utah desert. I’ll wait for the light interior.
Big surprise! I reserved the R2 in April 2025. I don’t own or lease a Rivian and live in the Los Angeles area. I just got a heads up email that I will be invited to order the LE R2 in Oct/Nov 2026. I was expecting my turn would come about a year from now. Why did I get moved up so quickly?
