R2’s Coastal Cloud Signature Interior Won’t Be Available at Launch
Bad news for anyone planning to spec their R2 Launch Edition with the white interior. RivianTrackr confirmed directly with Rivian at yesterday’s SXSW 2026 media event that the Coastal Cloud Signature interior won’t be available at launch with the Launch Edition R2 Performance.
This one hurts. I saw the Coastal Cloud interior in person and it’s gorgeous. The lighter tones completely change the feel of the cabin and it looked even better than the renders.
No word on why or when it might become available. I’m really hoping Rivian changes course on this because a Launch Edition Catalina Cove with the Coastal Cloud Signature interior is the exact build I want. Rivian, if you’re reading this, please make it happen.
Rivian if you are reading this; this has to change. Even if it means making the Coastal Cloud a paid add-on. I’d rather it just be included, obviously. But I’m willing to say most lean towards the light interior for this vehicle anyway. If you have so many paint colors available for the exterior; it makes no sense to not have a second interior color.
100% agree with this and will not be buying until this is available. The white interior is much more on brand than black. Airy and welcoming!

The launch seems rushed. They really needed to have more interior choices and LIDAR ready to go. Now there’s going to be a significant number of holdouts waiting for what they really want.
Jose, thanks for keeping us up to date. I’m disappointed with the R2 launch – no white interior and no 400+ mile range battery. It didn’t do me much good to make my reservation within the first few minutes after reservations opened in 2024. I really wanted to get launch green with white interior. Now I’m not in any rush to get one.
would you say coastal clouds is white or more gray? a common (initial) complaint when tesla offered it’s white interior was that there was a lot of glare from the white dash and that dye from blue jeans and other non-neutral clothes transferred easily.

Jose, I think this article should be updated. Tom at State of Charge recorded a video stating the White Interior will be available during the Launch Edition period….it’s just going to be an upgrade you have to pay extra for. Just like paying extra for a paint color; like that new Catalina Cove. I haven’t watched Tom’s video but Rivian confirmed multiple times that white interior would NOT be available.
Not true. My 2018 model S has white interior and it looks as good as the day we brought the car home. No glare issues either.

Jose – any slim chance Rivian has heard the feedback on this and reconsidered. Sounds like plenty of people were ready to pull the trigger on fully loaded launch until they heard this news, including me. Really hoping Rivian is hearing this. Also, any insight on how Rivian will handle introducing light interior option? Will Launch package still be available? That would soften the blow a bit. We want launch with cloud…
