Rivian is swapping my R2 Performance Launch Edition for a new R2 after service found continued issues with my AC compressor that weren’t normal.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because my AC compressor failed within the first month of owning my R2 while I was in South Florida in 98 degree heat, and Rivian got me sorted quickly at no cost.
When I brought my R2 back into service recently, it turned out this is apparently a unique situation, so Rivian’s engineering team wanted to use my car to learn more and offered to swap it for a new one.
If my car helps the engineering team learn something, I’m more than happy to hand it over.
It’s still a little bittersweet. A lot of you followed along when I took factory delivery of my Launch Green R2 in Normal, Illinois, and drove it 2,500 miles home to Orlando, and when I crossed 5,000 miles I said I’d buy it again without hesitation, which I still stand behind.
So I’m working with the team to get into another R2 because it’s still the vehicle I love driving every day. As of writing this, my current R2 is still at the service center and I don’t have a new VIN or any details on the replacement yet.
I’ll be keeping you all posted through this bump in my R2 journey with videos and articles here on RivianTrackr, and with Florida heat sticking around a while longer, the new R2’s AC will get a proper workout from day one.

Sounds like Rivian is swapping out my Gen 2 R1S for engineering to look into as well. I bought my R1S in Feb and it has been in 4 times now for a “service airbag” warning.
Keep me posted on what ends up happening.
Didn’t they swap it before delivery too?
“VIP” !
Will you stick with the LG and black interior or choose a new combo? Did you put any PPF on it?
This does not diminish my want for an R2, and I am in no way criticizing you, but I have to wonder if they would do the same thing on my R2 (if I already had it)
Jose,
I’ve followed your experience with your R2 through the AC Compressor replacement and thought things were sorted until this posting. Were there more ongoing issues with the AC than I’ve seen posted that has led Rivian to reach out with this latest request or are they just being proactive after inspecting your compressor more thoroughly?
We just took delivery of our R2 in August and so far so good, but topics like this catch my attention. Any details you can share?
