Rivian R1S Gets Police-Ready Thanks to EV Sportline’s New Patrol EV Upfit

Many people might not know this, but Rivian has been quietly building out an official Rivian Upfit Program — partnering with select companies to help customize vehicles for specific jobs and industries. One of those partners is our friend (and affiliate) EV Sportline, and they’ve been hard at work creating some pretty wild builds.
If you’re wondering, what’s an upfit exactly? — it’s basically when a vehicle gets modified after it leaves the factory to better serve a specific purpose. Think shelving systems, flooring changes, lighting packages, sirens, and even armored protection. Upfitting takes a stock vehicle and gets it ready to tackle real-world jobs, whether that’s for fleets, small businesses, or specialized roles like law enforcement.
EV Sportline recently launched a sub-brand called Patrol EV, focusing specifically on law enforcement modifications for electric vehicles. And they just finished their very first Rivian R1S upfit — and it’s seriously impressive.
This Dual-Motor R1S has been fully transformed with a law enforcement-grade lighting package (similar to what you’d find on a traditional police interceptor), custom running boards with integrated lights, and a control system tucked into the lower center console to manage the sirens, flashers, and even a megaphone to project outside the vehicle.
In the rear cargo area, Patrol EV installed a stealthy firearm and valuables case hidden beneath the floor. Since EVs like the R1S rely on relatively small 12V systems, and police vehicles demand way more electrical power, Patrol EV designed a proprietary battery and power system. It’s tucked behind the hidden compartment and runs independently from the vehicle’s main systems — making sure all the lights, sirens, and gear have their own dedicated juice.
And if that wasn’t enough, this R1S build is also fully bulletproof. Patrol EV outfitted all four doors with ballistic panels capable of stopping a 9mm round — giving it real protection while staying completely stealthy from the outside.
If you’re in law enforcement or a security role looking to electrify your fleet without sacrificing capability, this R1S upfit shows just how far EV tech — and upfitting — has come. Patrol EV currently offers upfitting services at two locations: Atlanta, GA and Los Angeles, CA.
