Rivian Opens First All-in-One Location in Rocklin, CA

Editor’s note: This article was written by Mark Radanovich, a friend of RivianTrackr based in Rocklin, California, who attended the grand opening firsthand. The perspective and words below are his own.

This past weekend, Rocklin, California, came alive with the smell of food, the hum of conversation between owners and curious newcomers, and an R2 sitting front and center on the demo floor. It was a grand opening, but it also felt like something more.

Rivian has never opened a location quite like Rocklin. It’s got RAN charging, retail space, service, and demo center; all in one place, for the first time. With R2 right around the corner, I don’t think this combination of services in a single location is a one-off. It feels like a signal about how Rivian is thinking about scale as they head into this next phase.

Rocklin is a strategic fit for Rivian because it sits in a stretch of California that’s well-positioned for exactly the kind of buyer R2 is built for: suburban families, outdoorsy people, millennials with a dog and a Tahoe addiction. Middle class, upper-middle class, plenty of folks who are EV-curious (maybe even EV-skeptical) but haven’t pulled the trigger.

A full-service walk-in location in a market like this does real work. It enables people to come in, engage with a human, sit in a vehicle, and even meet other owners. For better or worse, this is still how a lot of people buy cars and Rivian has had some friction in this area with their current approach. Their digital-first model is great for existing owners, but it’s left some prospective buyers confused when they show up to a service-only center expecting a showroom or a dealership-like experience. A place like Rocklin helps close that gap without going full dealership model (please, no).

One location covering charging, retail, service, and demo means fewer land leases, fewer employees spread thin across multiple sites, and more of the brand experience concentrated in one place. As Rivian pushes toward the kind of volume R2 requires, that kind of operational adjustment matters a lot.

I’d expect to see more of these hybrid locations as things scale. The exact combination will probably vary by market, but the direction feels clear.

Rivian has always put real effort into being part of the communities they operate in. A location like this creates more surface area for that. Events, meetups, a place where enthusiasts and curious newcomers can end up in the same room. All of this contributes to that scale they’re after, especially around word-of-mouth and brand recognition. This weekend was a testament to that effort.

As someone who lives in the Rocklin community, I’m excited to have this kind of facility in my back yard; but beyond the convenience, it’s great to see Rivian executing a location like this when so much is riding on the success of R2.

R2 is coming, brace yourselves. It feels like the winter winds are going to be blowing just right.

  1. Having worked in traditional dealerships, I can say Rivian’s new Rocklin Service + Demo Center is a smart move. The location at 4401 Granite Drive brings together a showroom, service center, and Adventure Network charging in one place — letting customers explore the vehicles, talk to knowledgeable staff, and experience the full Rivian ecosystem without the old-school pressure tactics.

People want to see, touch, and test drive before buying, especially with an EV this exciting. This all-in-one model makes the buying and ownership experience far smoother. Great execution by the team — congrats on the grand opening!

  2. Charged here a few times already. Super friendly staff and nice place to visit. Definitely a great way to be introduced to Rivian.

  3. This does seem the way forward – cost efficient for Rivian and multi functional for consumers. Look forward to seeing this idea replicated around the country.

  4. We’ve reached the tech company cycle of where they “invent” something that already exists and call it innovation, congratulations to Rivian for discovering that dealerships have actual benefits.
