Rivian Kills the R1 Dual Standard LFP Configuration

Rivian has now confirmed that the Dual Standard configuration is being pulled from the R1 lineup. If you’ve been sitting on the fence about getting into an R1 at the lowest possible entry price, this is your last chance.
To move remaining inventory, Rivian is offering a pretty solid lease to close things out: a 2026 R1 with Dual Standard starting at $749/month for 36 months, plus $3,000 off your lease. Your lease has to be approved by March 19 and the vehicle delivered by March 31, so the timeline is tight.
The email’s reasoning was vague, just that “changes are coming to the vehicle lineup later this year,” but it’s hard not to read between the lines. With the R2 set to launch in the $45,000 range, Rivian may be deliberately clearing out the lower end of the R1 range to avoid the two vehicles stepping on each other. A Dual Standard R1 at a competitive price point muddies the R2’s value proposition. Killing it creates a cleaner gap, with the R2 as the attainable Rivian and the R1 as the premium step up.
It’s also worth noting that the Dual Standard’s LFP battery hasn’t had the smoothest run lately. Owners have been dealing with battery calibration issues since late 2025, something we covered in depth, and it’s possible that’s also factoring into Rivian’s decision to retire the configuration rather than continue supporting it long term.
Whether that’s the actual strategy or just a byproduct of a lineup refresh, the end result is the same: Dual Standard is gone, and this lease offer is the last real on-ramp to an R1 at that price.
If you’ve been curious about getting into an R1 without going all-in on the higher-spec configurations, it’s worth running the numbers before March 19.

My bets are still on a potential Gen 3 R1S
