What to Expect From Rivian Autonomy & AI Day on December 9

Rivian’s second Autonomy & AI Day is Wednesday, December 9 at its Fell Street space in San Francisco, and the invitation Rivian sent out promises “brand new demos and presentations from leadership.”

Point to Point is the headliner. Rivian’s Autonomy Early Access Program puts it in the hands of select Gen 2 R1 and R2 owners in California and Florida this December, but those testers are under an NDA, so the stage demo will be the best look most of us get before the broad Autonomy+ rollout in 2027.

Auto Parking and On-Ramp to Off-Ramp are also listed on Rivian’s site for this year, and I’d expect an update on where both stand.

Hardware is the next thing to watch. Rivian’s new support page says a later delivery date or an Autonomy+ purchase won’t guarantee LiDAR or RAP1, so R2 shoppers will want to hear which configurations get the Gen 3 Autonomy Computer and when they can order one.

On the AI side, RJ told TechCrunch Disrupt that future Rivians will run AI agents from companies like Anthropic, and Rivian pointed to this event when asked for details. That’s the part that could matter to every owner, including Gen 1.

Then there’s Uber. Rivian still expects to unlock a second $250 million from the robotaxi partnership this quarter by hitting technical milestones, so any robotaxi progress shown on stage carries extra weight.

Last year’s event gave us RAP1, Universal Hands Free and Autonomy+ pricing, and most of that has reached owners since. I’ll be covering December 9 as it happens and will share more with you all as soon as Rivian takes the stage.
