Rivian Adds IONNA and Electrify America Plug & Charge Support in 2025.38 Update

Rivian just dropped a solid charging update in their upcoming 2025.38 software release, and it’s a big one for anyone road tripping or relying on public DC fast charging.

The IONNA network is officially being added to Rivian’s built-in navigation and mobile app. That means you’ll soon be able to select IONNA chargers directly alongside Rivian Adventure Network and other options when planning your route. Considering IONNA’s growing footprint across major interstates, this will make long-distance trips a lot easier for R1 owners.

Electrify America is also getting smarter inside Rivian’s UI. The update brings real-time charger availability and charging speeds right into your Rivian’s navigation, so you can actually see which stations are online and how many plugs are open before you arrive. No more guessing games or toggling between apps.

And the best part: both IONNA and Electrify America are gaining Plug & Charge support for Rivian. Once you pull up, just plug in, no apps, no cards, no PINs. The session automatically authenticates to your Rivian account and starts charging.

  1. Excellent news. Plug and charge is so convenient. And showing an additional network helps, especially one that focuses on good amenities.

  2. I just subscribed to your website Jose, and I just received my first notification. Thank you for all your hard work.

  3. Awesome news!!! I’m assuming the Electrify America Pass+ discount will apply unlike the Tesla discount? Thanks Jose!

    • This would be good! Tesla doesn’t work with the monthly membership discount. It would be so great if they fixed that along with having Pass+ for EA, too.

  4. Do we know if membership pricing will be honored when using Plug and Charge with EA, or is this still similar to Tesla where we still have to start the charge manually to get membership pricing? Does IONNA have a membership program too?

    • I’m sure it won’t.. just the base rate. Ionna has no program yet (though they seem to imply one is coming)

      • Also, IONNA is amazing — and I hope to see them overtake the supercharger network in the next 5-10 years.

  5. Just did a trip from Colorado to St. Louis and stopped at all the Ionna stations along the way, which were all great. Sorry we missed this update by a week or so, it was frustrating to be able to find “Ionna Recharging Station” in the car’s Nav but not have it recognized as a charger for charge planning purposes. All good soon though!
