Rivian Adds Gen 2 Wireless Charger and Camp Speaker to Gear Shop
Rivian just dropped two new accessories in the Gear Shop, and both are aimed at rounding out the experience for Gen 1 vehicle owners.
First is the Gen 2 Wireless Charger, a redesigned charging pad compatible with Gen 1 R1T and R1S. It now features a center divider to better hold your phone in place — something the original version struggled with. Multicoil technology allows for more reliable charging across the pad, supporting 7.5W to 15W speeds and two devices at once.
But while it’s nice to see Rivian address some of the design issues, many owners (myself included) feel the improvement is minor. It holds your phone better, sure, but charging performance is still just okay, and there are plenty of third-party wireless chargers that do the job better for less. It’s priced at $280, requires service installation, and can’t be purchased with referral points.
Then there’s the Rivian Camp Speaker, now available as a standalone purchase for $400. When ordering a vehicle, buyers previously had to choose between the center console drawer or the Camp Speaker — you couldn’t get both. Now, if you went with the drawer, you can finally pick up the speaker on its own. It docks inside the center console, charges while you’re driving, and pops out when you’re ready to use it as a portable Bluetooth speaker. This time around, referral points are accepted, making it an easier add-on for those with credits to spend.
Both products are live now in the Rivian Gear Shop, but expect install appointments for the charger to book up quickly.
