Rivian 2026.36 Update Brings Pet Cam to R2 and Remote Pet Mode

Rivian started rolling out 2026.36 yesterday, and for R2 owners that means Pet Cam is finally here, along with new remote Pet Mode controls in the app for every R1T and R1S, Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Pet Cam uses the R2’s RGB interior camera to give you a full color live view of your pet from the Gear Guard section of the Rivian app, with a cabin temperature badge sitting right on the feed so you can see how warm it is while you watch. If you don’t want to open a stream at all, your app dashboard and phone lock screen will keep refreshing with snapshots of the cabin.

Anyone still sitting in the car can kill the stream with one tap on the center display, which lines up with what Wassym told The Drive about this camera never being used to spy on people.

For everyone else, the big one is turning Pet Mode on from your phone after you’ve already walked away from your Rivian. You can turn it off from the paw icon in the climate screen too, and Rivian added a confirmation tap both ways so nobody shuts off the AC by accident with a pet in the back seat. You’ll need app version 3.17 or later, and the rest of the release is on our 2026.36 page.
