R1T Wins 2026 Edmunds Top Rated Electric Truck for Second Year

Edmunds just gave the R1T its Top Rated Electric Truck award for 2026, second year running. Always nice to see a publication that actually drives and tests these trucks (instead of just reading spec sheets) give it that nod.

It scored a 7.9 out of 10 from Edmunds, and in their real-world test, went 390 miles on a single charge with the Max pack. They also pointed out that with the big battery, it’s the most powerful electric truck you can get right now. That’s really saying something with so many options out there these days.

What stood out to me was that Edmunds basically said Rivian has quietly fixed many of the early bugs. They actually called it the first electric pickup they’d recommend, which is a bigger deal than just saying it’s fast or fun to drive. Owners have seen the software and hardware improve with updates over the years, so hearing a big-name outlet say it feels refined rather than risky really aligns with what a lot of us have felt in daily life.

Runner-up was the GMC Sierra EV, mostly because its range numbers are wild. The extended-range version went 429 miles, and the Max Range hit 507 in the same test. The Sierra starts a little lower, at $64,495, but it only got a 7.2. So the R1T took the win thanks to the overall package, not just one big number, which is usually how these things play out.

So yeah, back-to-back wins in a category that keeps getting more crowded are a pretty good place for Rivian to be. The big thing is, it’s still holding its own as more trucks hit the market. R2 deliveries are picking up, and the brand’s getting more attention than it has in a while. Honestly, that probably says more about how well the R1T has aged than the trophy does.
