First Rivian R2 Gets E-Coat, RJ Teases Launch Green

RJ just gave us a sneak peek at something pretty cool: the very first R2 body getting its e-coat treatment at Rivian’s Normal, Illinois factory.

He posted a few photos of the process, and in true RJ fashion, dropped a fun little detail. The greenish color of the e-coat liquid? That’s actually what inspired Rivian’s original Launch Green paint for the R1. And now, he’s hinting that R2 might get its own version of Launch Green too.

It’s not official yet, but the way he said it definitely felt like a teaser.

For Rivian fans, Launch Green has always been kind of iconic. It’s gritty, kind of industrial, and just feels very Rivian. So seeing it make a comeback—especially on the brand’s more affordable, adventure-ready R2—would be a nice full-circle moment.

No word yet on final color options for the R2, but if we’re already seeing e-coat photos and color talk, things are definitely moving along.

  1. The opening at the top of the windshield is interesting. It kinda looks like space for lidar like on the EX90. Normal camera-based systems are usually placed under the windshield, and that opening is higher than that.
