AI Leader Aidan Gomez Joins Rivian Board of Directors

Rivian has officially added Aidan Gomez—CEO and Co-Founder of enterprise AI startup Cohere—to its board of directors. The announcement marks a big step for Rivian as it ramps up its focus on integrating artificial intelligence across its vehicles, services, and manufacturing processes.

Gomez isn’t just another tech exec. He’s a former researcher at Google Brain, where he worked under legendary AI pioneer and Turing Award winner Geoffrey Hinton. He also helped co-author the foundational “Attention is All You Need” paper that laid the groundwork for modern transformer-based AI models, including the tech behind ChatGPT.

Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe called Gomez’s addition to the board “thrilling,” emphasizing that his leadership in AI will help shape Rivian’s future product and technology roadmap.

Gomez said he’s excited to help Rivian push toward becoming a global leader in automotive and manufacturing AI. “In this pivotal moment, Rivian is the best positioned to become the global leader,” he said in the press release.

This move suggests that Rivian isn’t just focused on EVs—they’re gearing up to compete in the intelligence layer of the automotive industry, where software, automation, and AI will define the next era of mobility.
