Tesla has announced a conditional settlement in its 2020 lawsuit against Rivian, which accused the company of poaching employees and stealing trade secrets. While details of the settlement remain undisclosed, Tesla told a California court it anticipates seeking dismissal of the case by December 24, pending fulfillment of the agreement’s terms.
The lawsuit began four years ago, with Tesla alleging that Rivian engaged in an “alarming pattern” of hiring Tesla employees to misappropriate key EV technologies, including next-generation battery tech. Rivian has consistently denied these claims, calling the lawsuit an attempt to stifle competition in the growing EV market.
A trial had been set for March 2025 after earlier attempts by Rivian and its employees to have the case dismissed were rejected. Rivian has declined to comment on the settlement.
