What’s Next for the Pacific Northwest?
The Rivian Seattle pop-up space will close its doors on Sunday, September 22nd. This marks the end of a successful year showcasing Rivian’s R1 vehicles. However, this isn’t the end—it’s the beginning of something even more exciting for the Puget Sound region.
To continue sharing the next generation of R1 vehicles with prospective buyers, Rivian will host pop-up events throughout the area. This will help keep the momentum strong in one of Rivian’s largest markets. Although the next official retail space will be announced later this year, you can still get up close and personal with Rivian’s latest models at several upcoming pop-up events.
A huge thank you goes out to the Seattle Rivian Space team for their incredible work. Their dedication to the local owners’ club and surrounding communities has, without a doubt, made a lasting impact.

Could Washington’s Laws Be Impacting Rivian’s Retail Location Decision?
One possible reason for Rivian delaying the selection of a permanent Seattle location could be Washington’s dealership laws. These laws, which protect traditional dealerships, currently prevent Rivian and other electric vehicle manufacturers from selling directly to consumers. On the other hand, Tesla was grandfathered in when the law was enacted, giving it a unique advantage.
As Rivian looks to the future, they may be waiting for the next legislative session in January 2025, hoping for a bill that would allow direct-to-consumer sales and level the playing field for all automakers. While this is just speculation, it could, nevertheless, explain the delay in selecting a permanent retail space.
Meanwhile, Rivian continues to engage with the community through pop-up events and other opportunities for buyers to experience their groundbreaking vehicles.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates, and don’t miss your chance to be part of Rivian’s continuing journey in Washington State!
