Rivian’s 2025.06 Update Will Let R1 Owners Unlock Dual-Motor Performance Upgrade

Rivian is rolling out a big update for R1 Dual-Motor owners in the 2025.06 OTA. You’ll soon be able to upgrade to Dual-Motor Performance directly from your center screen. No service center visit required, just an over-the-air software unlock.

This upgrade boosts 0-60 mph to 3.4 seconds. Horsepower jumps to 665 hp, and torque increases to 829 lb-ft. It also adds three new drive modes. Rally Mode improves handling on loose surfaces. Sport Mode sharpens performance for street driving. Soft Sand Mode enhances traction in deep sand.

Pricing is still unknown, but you’ll be able to use Rivian Rewards points to pay for it. That makes this a great option for owners who have built up points from referrals.

The upgrade will only be available for R1T and R1S models equipped with Dual Standard+, Dual Large, Dual Large+, or Dual Max packs. Rivian will not offer the upgrade for Dual Standard vehicles, likely due to hardware limitations.

Dual-Performance Upgrade

This update lets owners upgrade power whenever they want. No need to choose the Performance model at purchase. Just tap a button and unlock more speed and capability.

Rivian is following Tesla’s lead with post-purchase software upgrades, but with real performance gains. Earlier in February, Rivian also confirmed that wheel swaps will be available in 2025.06, allowing owners to change wheel sizes without a service center visit.

It’s a big win for R1 owners who want more power and customization without buying a new truck. Pricing details should drop soon.

  1. Will the new driving modes be available for those of us that already have Dual Motor performance?

  2. I have a 2024 Dual Motor Standard+ with the Performance unlocked from the factory, it cost $5k. I will say, its a “nice to have” but i never actually use the modes. At the time you needed to have a Standard+ or higher to add this. Back then Standard and Standard plus was just software locked large NMC pack.

  3. Dual Standard only owner here. I’m disappointed I didn’t get the perf package originally.

Anyone know what the hardware limitations are? Thx

  4. What’s up with that image at the top of the story? Looks like they’ve replaced the wood trim with some other material?

  5. I’m someone who tends to just leave my car in All-Purpose mode, anyone know if would notice any difference in 0-60 performance or do I have to put it in Sport Mode to experience it?
