Rivian to Showcase AI-Driven Driving Tech at December Autonomy Day

Back in September, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe joined Goldman Sachs analyst Mark Delaney at the Communacopia + Technology Conference to talk about what’s next for the company, everything from the upcoming R2 platform to the Volkswagen joint venture. But the part that really stood out was autonomy.

RJ revealed that Rivian is aiming to roll out “situational” Level 3 autonomy in 2026, beginning with limited use cases like traffic jams. From there, the plan is to scale quickly. He said that by 2030, customers will likely expect vehicles that can handle full point-to-point driving with hands and eyes off.

Unlike traditional rule-based systems, Rivian’s approach is built around an AI-trained foundation model that learns driving end-to-end from real fleet data. That means the system improves over time without engineers having to manually program specific rules for every situation. According to RJ, this kind of AI-driven learning will speed up progress dramatically over the next few years.

Now Rivian is ready to show the world what that looks like. The company just announced it will host its first-ever Autonomy Day on December 11 in the Bay Area, where it’s expected to dive deeper into its AI and autonomy roadmap. Details are still limited, but it’s safe to assume we’ll see demos of Rivian’s in-house perception systems, sensor suite, and the machine-learning tools powering its next-generation driver assist features.

For Rivian, this event could be a defining moment, showing how serious it is about building smarter, safer, and more capable vehicles that keep learning from every mile driven.
