Rivian R2 Prototype Damaged in Transit, Vancouver Auto Show Appearance Canceled

Bad news for Rivian fans—especially those in Vancouver. The highly anticipated R2 prototype, which was supposed to make an appearance at the Vancouver Auto Show, was damaged while in transit. Rivian shared the unfortunate update on Instagram, explaining that the vehicle had just wrapped up a stint at SXSW in Austin before the incident occurred.

Right now, it looks like Rivian only has one R2 prototype making the rounds, so this could mean a major delay in seeing it again at other events. The company hasn’t provided details on the extent of the damage or whether the R2 will be making a quick return to the spotlight. However, they did say, “We’ll look for more ways to get R2 back to Vancouver ahead of its launch in the first half of next year.”

For those who were hoping to get a closer look at the R2 in Vancouver, this is a frustrating setback. But with Rivian planning to launch the R2 lineup in early 2026, we’ll likely get more opportunities to see it in person—just maybe not as soon as we hoped.

  1. Well, they can just make a service appointment. I’m sure things can be fixed up in July or so…
