Rivian has stocked the Gear Shop with its first full run of R2 accessories, covering two wheel and tire sets, a compact spare, crossbars, floor mats, a cargo cover, a sunshade, screen protectors, and a HEST camping mattress. Pricing for each is in the table below.
The spare is the notable one. The R2 has a dedicated spare tire compartment, and the new compact spare drops into it with a tire service kit included. The crossbars are listed but marked coming soon and as a reminder they are not backwards compatible with R1, and the HEST mattress is sold through HEST rather than the Gear Shop. Everything else is available to order now, though the wheel sets and the spare are phone order and installed at a Rivian Service Center or via mobile appointment.

Jose Castillo is the founder of RivianTrackr and has owned and driven Rivians since early in the brand's consumer history. He currently drives an R1S and an R2 in Florida and uses Universal Hands-Free every day. As a credentialed Rivian journalist, he has covered the R2 First Drive in Park City and SXSW firsthand and has spoken directly with Rivian's software and autonomy leadership.
I put my R1S spare tire/rim in the R2 space for it and it barely fit, at best. The specs and dimensions for the spare/rim are the same for R1 and R2 but it’s really a tight fit.
Test drove R2 and loved it. Immediately put down a reservation. Drives so much better than R1S. The scroll wheels felt surprisingly cheap though, pretty plastic-y and didn’t really work as well as hyped. Honestly so bad almost was a deal breaker (The true deal breaker is if there isn’t a complimentary item for accessory 1 below)
Would love to see the following:
1. An additional fan or accessory for the back for pet mode when the seats are up. Have a large dog and concerned he’ll stay cool enough.
2. Would love to see a rear tire mount for R2 like we have on our classic ‘87 defender. With the rear glass that can go up and down seems still pretty accessible to the back area without having to open the gate anyways.
3. Treehouse tent too. Hope they do their best to aero optimize it. Seems like maybe there’s an opportunity for it to have a small solar component too. Either when unpacked or maybe folded but probably not practical. Realize it wouldn’t add much energy to the car but might be enough to offset anything used while using the tent.
