Rivian R2 Could Be the EV That Changes the Game

The excitement around Rivian’s upcoming R2 is real, and honestly, it feels deserved. This isn’t just another EV, it’s Rivian finally stepping into the mainstream. The R1T and R1S are amazing trucks, but with starting prices well north of $80K, they’ve always been a little out of reach for a lot of people. The R2 changes that.
We’re talking about a mid-size SUV starting around $45,000 (hopefully). That’s a massive shift. Suddenly, Rivian isn’t just the cool, outdoorsy brand for early adopters, it’s a genuine option for families, commuters, and anyone who just wants a stylish EV that can do it all while going to Costco.
What makes it even better is that Rivian didn’t cheap out to get that lower price. The R2 is still packed with range (projected to have over 300 miles), strong performance, and clever design touches that make it feel more livable than the R1 lineup plus two gloveboxes.

And from a bigger picture perspective, Rivian is clearly serious about making the R2 happen quickly. They shifted production plans to Illinois instead of waiting for their Georgia factory to come online, saving billions and speeding up timelines. That kind of decisiveness feels refreshing compared to the delays we’ve seen from legacy automakers who seem to be backing out of EVs.
Personally, I think the R2 is Rivian’s turning point. The R1 lineup built the brand and proved Rivian could make incredible EVs. But the R2? This is the one that gets Rivian into driveways everywhere. I wouldn’t be surprised if we look back at this moment as the start of Rivian becoming a household name.
Reservations are already piling in, and judging by the energy online, people are genuinely excited to join the Rivian community. I get it, I have an R2 reservation as well and can’t wait to get my hands behind the wheel of one.
I hope they continue to improve the fit and finish of the body panels including the trim pieces. It’s discouraging to this in a $87K vehicle (R1T).
I really wish they would make a R2T truck!
I’d say it’s likely they are
