Rivian R1T Powered Tonneau Cover Returns With Improved Design and Service Retrofits

Rivian has introduced an upgraded Powered Tonneau Cover for the R1T, priced at $3,300, and it’s a serious improvement over the original design. The new version is water-resistant, virtually noise-free, and rolls open smoothly in seconds with its 36 connected slats. It not only protects your gear from the elements but also gives the R1T bed a more refined, armored look.
Compatibility and retrofits
Not every truck will be able to make the switch. Some R1Ts that were built without a Tonneau Cover, or those equipped with the Manual Tonneau Cover, may not be compatible due to wire harness limitations. Rivian advises contacting their Service team to confirm eligibility. Retrofits are only available for select vehicles, and appointments with Rivian Service professionals typically book at least 30 days out.
What’s Included
- Powered Tonneau Cover assembly
- Mounting hardware and replacement trims
- Installation at a Rivian Service Center or Service + Demo Center, by appointment
This updated cover is available for select Gen 1 and all Gen 2 R1T models, and installation is included in the price. You can check it out now in the Rivian Gear Shop, and if you’ve got referral points, you can use them toward the purchase.
I called Rivian yesterday for my Gen 1 R1T vin 15,000+. Was informed power tonneau won’t retro for my R1T. Feels like Rivian is focused on Gen 2 owners. Disappointing after waiting almost 3 years for a power tonneau cover option.
💯 agreed. Not to mention feeling a bit betrayed. Pre-ordered 2yrs in advance and was assured by multiple Rivian guides PRIOR to me agreeing to accept a truck without it. “Yes, a powered tonneau cover can be added to a vehicle post-delivery.” “ The powered cover will be retrofittable to all R1Ts once it becomes available next year.”
This was a key anchor feature for me and if I had known they wouldn’t follow through on it, I wouldn’t have taken the truck and waited until I could get one with it.
I paid for the Adventure Package which included the power tonneau, not sure why they aren’t honoring that.
In my mind, if you can’t make it work on my truck, take mine back and give me a truck that has one.
