Rivian R1S Cracks the Top 5 Best-Selling EVs in the U.S.

Rivian is gaining ground in the EV market, and the latest sales data proves it. According to Cox Automotive, the Rivian R1S was the fifth best-selling EV in the U.S. last month, marking a huge milestone for the brand. With over 4,000 vehicles sold, Rivian’s total sales jumped 34% from the previous month—an impressive feat considering the industry-wide slowdown.

The R1S trailed only the Tesla Model Y, Model 3, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Honda Prologue in terms of sales volume. That means Rivian’s electric SUV is now outselling a lot of legacy automakers’ EVs, solidifying its place as a serious contender in the market.

Meanwhile, Tesla saw a sales dip of 10% year-over-year. The Cybertruck had a rough month, dropping 32.5%, while the refreshed Model 3 slipped 17.5%. The Model Y held on better, down just 3.1%, but overall, Tesla’s dominance isn’t as bulletproof as it once was.

The EV market as a whole moved 95,692 units last month. While that’s a 5.9% decline from January, it set a record for February sales, up 10.5% from last year. Even with shifting market dynamics and growing competition, the demand for EVs is still climbing.

For Rivian, this momentum could be a sign of things to come. With the R2 reveal on the horizon and an ever-expanding charging network, the company is positioning itself to take an even bigger slice of the market. If sales continue at this pace, Rivian could soon challenge even more established players in the EV space.
