RivianOS 2.0 is coming to the R1T and R1S in the 2026.31 OTA update, and both Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles are getting it.
Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid shared the news on X, saying Rivian rebuilt the R1 experience from the ground up to be faster and more intuitive, and that RivianOS 2.0 arrives on R1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 with 2026.31.
There was an open question about whether pre-2024 R1 hardware would carry forward or stay on the current software stack. Both generations are making the jump in the same release.
We reported a few days ago that a Rivian employee had shared an image of a Gen 1 R1T running the new OS, which pointed to it landing in the next R1 update.
The timeline traces back to May, when Wassym confirmed during a Reddit AMA that RivianOS 2.0 was launching on R2 at the start and coming to R1 later this year, with the goal of a single core operating system across the lineup.
R2 has shipped with RivianOS 2.0 since launch. We got hands on with it at the R2 First Drive event in Park City, Utah earlier this year. Full walkthrough here.
The R1 fleet is currently on 2026.23, which went public on August 6. Rivian has not shared a release date for 2026.31.
We will have release notes and first looks as soon as it starts rolling out. Track it on our Rivian software updates page.

gen1 not completely disregarded yet, but s00n
Gen 1 lasts another month, lol
Be thankful you’re not BMW. They have completely made their real first get EVs (i4/5/7) obsolete by incompetence and not future proofing. BMW i-series EVs don’t even have a native way to change the ambient lighting color from the stock 6-7 colors offered in iDrive. You have to use “coding” tools like BimmerCode just to replace one of the color slots with something as exotic as true red, or blue
Wish Rivian offered a true red
Wasn’t that generation just a retrofit of the existing ICE platform? I did not hold those in high regard when they were released.
Question will be for R1, does that mean we lose Rivian Assistant, YouTube and Google Casting, and Camp Mode and all the SW features that are currently missing from R2 and OS 2.0?
No, these will be ported over for R1
