Rivian Opens AI Development Hub in London to Advance Autonomous Driving
Rivian is officially heading to London. This morning, the EV maker announced a brand-new international office in the UK, focused entirely on artificial intelligence development. The goal? To build out a global hub for Rivian’s next-generation autonomy efforts.
This new London office joins Rivian’s growing international footprint, which already includes teams in Vancouver, Amsterdam, and Belgrade.
So why the UK? According to Rivian, the country is quickly becoming a global leader in artificial intelligence engineering. By opening a dedicated office in London, the automaker is aiming to tap into that talent pool as it doubles down on autonomous technology. It’s not just about building EVs anymore, it’s about developing smarter, more capable systems to support them.
Rivian’s second-generation vehicles were designed from the start with an AI-first mindset. These new models are gathering huge amounts of in-vehicle data, helping improve features like its hands-free Driver+ system. But the company’s ambitions go further than highway assistance. They’re building out what they call a Large Driving Model, a deep learning-based system meant to understand complex road scenarios and unlock more advanced autonomous capabilities over time.
This is where the UK office comes in. Engineers in London will help shape the future of Rivian’s software platform, working on perception systems, data infrastructure, and OTA-enabled updates that will roll out to vehicles over time. While specifics are still under wraps, Rivian teased an upcoming “AI and Autonomy Day” later this year, where we’ll likely hear a lot more about what’s in the pipeline.
For now, the message is clear, Rivian isn’t just expanding globally, it’s also betting big on AI as a key pillar of its future.
