Rivian LFP Battery 0-100% Testing Improved Over Software Update

My friends at Out of Spec Studios recently tested the new Gen 2 Rivian R1S with the Standard Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, better known as LFP. This is the first available Rivian vehicle to offer an LFP battery for the general consumer. Rivian has been utilizing LFP batteries on its Rivian Delivery Vans for some time now.

Below are some highlights from the Out of Spec video:

  • 0 to 100% charging improved by 15 minutes (down to 1 hr from 1 hr 15 min)
  • 218 kWh peak charging
  • Held over 200 kWh from 5% to 25%
  • 0 to 75% charging in 30 minutes flat
  • This seems to be the sweet spot for road-tripping

Rivian has stated that more improvements are coming to the LFP batteries in future software updates to continue improving the battery.

Check out the Out of Spec video on YouTube and let me know your thoughts. Would you buy an R1S Standard LFP vehicle?
