Rivian has been caught testing their vehicles in the land down under. Ryan over on X shared a photo of a Rivian R1T being tested near Melbourne, Australia earlier this week. As of the writing of this article, Rivian has not made any statements on when they will be launching vehicles in Australia but with Rivian being the ultimate adventure EV, it makes complete sense for Rivian to launch vehicles in Australia in the future.
Notable in the photo below are the added amber turn signal indicator lights to the rear of the R1T. In Australia, the law for vehicle turn signal lights specifies that they must be amber/yellow. This applies to both front and rear indicators. The amber color requirement is consistent with international standards for vehicle signaling and is enforced by Australian Design Rules (ADR), which regulate vehicle safety and performance.
Additionally, Rivian currently only makes left-side driver vehicles while Australia drives on the left side of the road and requires right-hand driver vehicles which is why there’s an additional sign on the rear of the R1T advising surrounding drivers that the vehicle is left-hand drive.
Australia also uses CCS Type 2 (Mennekes) connectors for electric vehicle charging. This would require Rivian to use a CCS Type 2 to CCS Type 1 adapter to be able to charge in Australia.
Stay tuned to RivianTrackr as we report on Rivian vehicles hitting all corners of the globe and eventually seeing them launch in other countries.
