Rivian Autonomy+ Officially Launches With 2026.03 Update

With today’s 2026.03 update, Rivian officially begins charging for something many owners have known was coming eventually, Autonomy+.

For a while now, Rivian has been rolling out increasingly capable hands free and assisted driving features through software updates without asking owners to pay extra, which honestly felt generous but never permanent. As Rivian’s autonomy stack kept improving, it became pretty clear these features were being built into a future subscription product, and now that moment has arrived. Autonomy+ represents Rivian leaning into software as an ongoing service rather than a one time vehicle feature.

The key thing Rivian is doing right here is keeping safety separate from subscriptions. Core driver safety systems remain standard and free across all vehicles, while Autonomy+ focuses on convenience and workload reduction, things like Universal Hands-Free driving, Co-Steer, and Lane Change on Command, with Auto Parking and expanded highway functionality planned later this year.

This launch feels less like a sudden change and more like Rivian formalizing what has already been happening behind the scenes. The technology has been evolving for years, owners now get a 60 day trial to decide if it is worth keeping, and Rivian gets a sustainable way to continue investing in autonomy long term.

Rivian Gen 2 R1 owners can subscribe to Autonomy+ after the 60 day trial for $49.99/month or a one time fee of $2,500 which is associated with the VIN of the vehicle.

  1. I have been following Rivian since 2023, when I first heard about the vision and the mission behind the company. From that moment, I truly believed in what Rivian was building — not just vehicles, but a new direction for the future of transportation.
I even purchased shares back then. Although the stock price has had its ups and downs, my confidence in Rivian’s long-term potential has never faded. Innovation takes time, and real progress is built step by step. Watching the company grow, improve its technology, and now expand into services like Autonomy+ shows how serious Rivian is about shaping the future.
Even though I’m not in a position to own a Rivian vehicle yet, I continue to follow every update with pride and excitement. One day, I truly believe Rivian will be among the most recognized and respected names in the world.
Thank you, Rivian, for your vision, courage, and steady growth. Wishing you continued success as you move forward — the journey is just beginning.

  2. For what they currently offer I don’t think they’re ready for the subscription model. All you get is hands free lane centering and following distance. The vehicle doesn’t even move over if someone veers into your lane.

  3. Although Rivian never touted their auto-driving as primed and ready, it neve trys to market it like Tesla, which promises its readyness and ask for money outright. The State of California got involved threatening to remove Tesla’s dealership license to stop the nonsense. The State allowed Tesla to rise to the richest corporation in the world, but reality sets in and rightly so for its blatant promise. Rivian’s approach is more inline to the integrity of the business model with no wild promises or delusional marketing hype.

  4. For what it currently is, $50/mo is not gonna fly. Bundle it with Connect+ and I’d be more inclined to subscribe. Having two separate monthly fees – on a vehicle that already cost over $110k – is egregious.

  5. What about the Rev1 of R1S ? We bought ours in 2022 and received it in Jan 2024 – and helped Rivian launch itself to greatness.
    Now we’re being fucked.
If this isn’t fixed, my next car will be something else.

    • Did you ordered/reserved the vehicle in 2022, or actually bought (pay full amount) in 2022?

      • You dont pay until your vehicle was ready for delivery. I reserved mine in 2020 and took delivery in Nov 2023. In 2020 you can only pre-order. So i am with Leon 100%
