Rivian Adventure Network Launches Off-Peak Charging Rates

RivianTrackr has learned that starting today, Rivian is rolling out time-of-use pricing across its Rivian Adventure Network (RAN), beginning with upgraded v1.5 chargers. This shift gives EV drivers more control over how much they pay to charge, especially in areas where charging can be timed overnight.

In a first look shared with RivianTrackr, Rivian confirmed that time-of-use pricing is now live in select markets, including Charlotte, NC. At this location, drivers can now charge between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. for just $0.27 per kWh if they drive a Rivian, or $0.31 for non-Rivians. Peak pricing, from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., remains steady at $0.38 and $0.45 per kWh, respectively.

Crucially, Rivian told us that peak pricing will not increase with this update. What you see now is the cap. Instead, the savings come from shifting charging habits to off-peak hours.

This rollout is powered by Rivian’s hardware upgrade initiative. According to the company, around 60% of its nationwide charging network has now been retrofitted from v1.0 to v1.5 hardware, unlocking more consistent charging speeds and support for features like time-based pricing.

The company is starting with regions where it believes drivers have the flexibility to choose when they plug in, and more sites will adopt the pricing model as upgrades continue.

We’ll be tracking additional locations as they come online. For now, it’s a smart first step toward a more flexible and future-ready EV charging network, one where Rivian owners can save just by charging at the right time.

  1. I’m curious, is there a way to identify if a charger has been updated from version 1.0 to version 1.5? I looked on the RivanRoamer site just to see if maybe he called it out on there somehow but I didn’t see anything that would indicate one versus the other

    • Perfect! I must have also missed that they have a Rivian rate and a non-Rivian rate on the public chargers. When I last used the Strongsville one a couple of months ago, it only showed that new, very expensive single rate. I also noticed it’s not currently displaying an off-peak rate there. I’ll have to check again next month when I visit to see if that’s been implemented.

  2. Do you know what the pricing will be between 10 pm and 2 am? Is that time period considered peak or off peak charging?
