R2 Performance Hits 3.45 Seconds, Faster Than Rivian’s Own 0 to 60

Wassym is back teasing software, and this time it is Launch Mode coming to the R2 Performance.

The clip shows the same activation people already know from R1. You swipe up on Gear Guard to arm it, then the R2 takes off from there.

The number that jumps out is the 0-60. In the video, the R2 Performance completed the run in 3.45 seconds, faster than the 3.6 seconds Rivian currently lists on the R2 page. That is a good sign, especially now that R2 is already reaching owners and people can start feeling this out for themselves.

It kept going, too: the run hit 100 mph in 6.99 seconds, pulled all the way up to a top speed of 130 mph, and turned in a quarter-mile time of 11.31 seconds.

Worth keeping in mind that this came off Wassym’s own clip and not an independently instrumented test, so the exact hundredths could vary depending on conditions and surface. That is normal. What I did not expect was that it would run ahead of Rivian’s own stated figure rather than a little behind it.

No firm date yet for when Launch Mode will roll out to R2 Performance owners, but since these cars are already on the road, it could land in an over-the-air update sooner rather than later. Keep an eye on the next release notes.
