R2 is getting a height adjustable tailgate in the next OTA update, according to Rivian Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid, who confirmed it in a comment on the r/RivianR2 subreddit.
The feature lets owners set how high the power tailgate opens, which helps in garages with low ceilings.
I haven’t seen it on my R2 Performance Launch Edition yet, so this is based on Wassym’s comment alone.
As soon as I get release notes for the next software update, I’ll share them with you all.
Excellent, I noticed that immediately on my first test drive and was told the OTA would be forthcoming.
That’s cool and all, but the R2 doesn’t have a ‘tailgate’. Which is one of the downsides.
If they could that to the R1S–something I’ve asked for 3 years ago (and I doubt will change anytime soon).
Also, can you find out if there will be two different tailgate heights, one for the garage and one outside the garage when you go shopping. It would be nice if RIVIAN could automate this when you open your garage door only and then reset or go back to the highest opening. PLEASE pass this suggestion on to RIVIAN.
Or do what my Model Y does and have location specific heights and a default height everywhere else… Before Tesla added location specificity it worked well in the garage, which was quite important, and I was always pushing the hatch open everywhere else. My GV60 is like that still and I don’t expect it to change, but when I replace it with an R2 I’m hoping for the best.
