Pet Mode Is Coming to the R2 in the Next OTA

Wassym just confirmed that Pet Mode is coming to the R2 in the very next over-the-air update. He even posted on X with a picture of his dog, Paddington, chilling in the cabin.

This is a big deal because Pet Mode was one of those features the R2 didn’t have at launch. We went through the whole list of missing stuff when the first cars started arriving, and for anyone with a dog or cat in the back seat, this one was near the top.

If you’ve used Pet Mode in an R1, you already know the drill: park the car with at least 50 miles of range, tap the paw icon, pick your pet’s perfect temp between 68 and 74. The cabin keeps it steady while you run inside, and the screen lets everyone know your furry friend is totally fine. It’s one of those features you didn’t know you needed until you don’t have it, and surprisingly, a lot of automakers are opting out of having this feature, so it does make Rivian stick out.

So now everyone’s wondering what else might show up in that same update. Rivian Assistant, Climate Hold, and the rest of the launch wish list are all possibilities. Nothing official on those yet, but Pet Mode actually getting a date feels like a good sign. As always, RivianTrackr will share a first look at the release notes for the next OTA as soon as we get them in our paws.
