On October 14th, I wrote an article about my experience with Tesla disabling the Magic Dock at many Superchargers across the United States without apparent reason. The article alongside my video exploded throughout social media and other EV-related sites and channels as many others experienced what I did as well.
Tesla has finally come out and shared some information about what happened and shared it on X:
So what exactly does this mean? Your guess is as good as mine. Tesla is pretty much saying that the Magic Dock locations were set up incorrectly and shouldn’t have been accessible using the Magic Dock built-in adapters. So why build these new dispensers with Magic Dock if you don’t have any plans to unlock them or even use them. It makes absolutely no sense but here we are.
Telsa is right in saying that the industry is moving “all-in on NACS” but for right now, in the transition phase, we need to have the ability to either use your own NACS adapter or the Magic Dock that is literally already built-in to the dispenser.
So for now, make sure you have your NACS adapter when visiting any Tesla Supercharger.
I think what they are saying is that there was a bug and they fixed it. Does the site you had issues with show up on the map under Superchargers open to other EVs? So would need to try again at the site and see if it works now?
I checked as of this morning and it still does not show as a Magic Dock location but I am going to go check it out this afternoon.
