Infineon to Supply Power Systems for Rivian R2 Electric Platform

Rivian has teamed up with Infineon Technologies to power its upcoming R2 platform, starting in 2026. Infineon will supply advanced power modules for the R2’s traction inverters, which are the components that turn battery power into the energy needed to drive the wheels. Simply put, they help the vehicle move efficiently.

The R2 platform will use a mix of silicon carbide (SiC) and traditional silicon (Si) modules from Infineon’s HybridPACK Drive G2 family. These are designed to boost performance and range in electric vehicles. In addition to power modules, Infineon will also provide AURIX TC3x microcontrollers and power management chips for the R2.

Stefan Obersriebnig from Infineon highlighted that their technology has powered over 10.5 million electric vehicles since 2017. With a strong track record and ongoing expansion at their factories in Malaysia and Austria, Infineon is doubling down on cutting-edge materials like SiC and gallium nitride (GaN) to stay ahead in EV technology.

This partnership is a big win for Rivian, ensuring the R2 will have efficient, high-performance power systems, helping it stand out in the growing EV market.
