Gerard Dwyer Named Chief Information Officer at Rivian

Rivian has officially announced a leadership update as Gerard Dwyer steps into the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO). Dwyer shared the news on LinkedIn, expressing his excitement to help lead Rivian’s technology strategy during one of the company’s most pivotal moments yet—with the launch of the R2 just around the corner.

For the last four years, Gerard has been serving as Rivian’s Vice President of Business Finance. During that time, he worked closely with CFO Claire Rauh McDonough and played a key role in the financial operations that supported Rivian’s early growth, product ramp, and IPO. His transition into the CIO position signals a stronger alignment between Rivian’s enterprise tech infrastructure and its long-term strategic goals.

He also gave a shoutout to Rivian’s Chief Software Officer, Wassym Bensaid, and the broader Enterprise Technology team for their partnership and support. It’s clear this move is as much about tech innovation as it is about internal collaboration—two things Rivian’s going to need in abundance as it prepares to scale R2 production and bring new models like the R3 and R3X to market.

This kind of internal leadership shuffle isn’t unusual in fast-moving companies, but what makes Gerard’s appointment stand out is his hybrid background—finance and tech—which positions him well to lead Rivian’s information systems at a time when cost-efficiency, software integration, and data-driven operations are becoming mission-critical.

With the EV space evolving quickly, and Rivian working to bring multiple new vehicles and technologies to market, having someone in the CIO seat who understands both the numbers and the tech could be a major asset.

Congrats to Gerard on the new role—and here’s hoping we’ll start seeing the impact of that leadership as the R2 era begins.
