First Rivian Charging Site for All EVs? Joshua Tree Opens With New Features

Big news for EV roadtrippers: the Rivian Adventure Network site at Joshua Tree is now live! This location isn’t just another stop on Rivian’s growing network; it brings a few exciting upgrades that make it stand out.

New “v1.5” Chargers

The Joshua Tree site is the first to feature Rivian’s updated “v1.5” charging dispensers. These chargers come with longer cables, taller units, and built-in payment terminals—making them more flexible for different vehicles. With 12 chargers on-site, it’s the largest Rivian Adventure Network location yet.

Pricing and Opening Up to Non-Rivians

Charging rates are set at $0.45/kWh for Rivian vehicles, while other EVs will pay $0.60/kWh. Rivian has said their network will soon open to other brands, but there’s no official date yet. Given that Joshua Tree’s chargers have payment terminals, it seems like a perfect spot to kick off the expansion to non-Rivians.

Not Fully Open Just Yet

The chargers are ready to go, but the rest of the outpost—including a store with Rivian merch, snacks, and restrooms—still isn’t open. No word yet on when those extras will be available, but they’ll definitely make this spot an even better stop for road trips once they are.

Could This Be the First Site Open to Everyone?

With its new charger features and a prime location near a major adventure destination, Joshua Tree feels like a strong contender to be the first Adventure Network site to welcome non-Rivian EVs. Whether or not that’s the case, it’s clear that Rivian is thinking beyond just its own vehicles as it expands its charging network.
