Electric Vehicles Are Not Political

Electric vehicles are here, and they’re awesome. They’re cleaner, quieter, usually faster, and packed with tech that makes old-school cars feel like dinosaurs. So, why have they become such a political hot potato? Spoiler alert: they shouldn’t be. Let’s talk about why EVs should be something we all agree on, no matter how you vote.
Everyone Wants Cleaner Air, Right?
Here’s the deal: nobody actually likes breathing dirty air. Whether you live in a city, a suburb, or out in the sticks, we all appreciate a good lungful of fresh air. EVs help make that happen by cutting down on emissions. This isn’t about being a “tree hugger” or a “climate warrior”—it’s about not needing an inhaler to go for a jog. Clean air is one of those things we should all want, full stop.
Energy Independence
Remember when everyone was talking about breaking free from foreign oil? EVs can make that a reality. They run on electricity, and last time I checked, the U.S. knows how to make electricity. Whether you’re into solar panels, wind farms, or good old-fashioned power plants, EVs mean less money spent on importing oil from halfway across the world. That’s just smart, no matter your politics.
Jobs, Jobs, Jobs
Let’s talk money. The EV industry is booming, and with it comes a ton of new jobs. Building batteries, designing cars, maintaining charging networks—it’s all work that pays the bills. Plus, these jobs aren’t tied to one political side; they’re tied to wherever people are willing to roll up their sleeves and get things done. Want more jobs in your community? Support EVs. Simple as that.
Tech Isn’t Political, So Why Are EVs?
Innovation is just cool. It doesn’t care about politics. EVs are a step forward—better efficiency, smoother rides, and fewer trips to the gas station. Remember when the internet came along and changed everything? Nobody argued about whether it leaned left or right; they just started using it. EVs should be the same. They’re about progress, not politics.
Can We Just Focus on What We All Want?
Here’s where the EV debate goes sideways: people focus too much on the politics of it all—subsidies, regulations, who’s paying for what. But when you zoom out, most people want the same things: cleaner air, cheaper energy, more jobs, and cooler cars. EVs check all those boxes. So why are we fighting about it?
Let’s Keep It Simple
EVs aren’t trying to take sides. They’re just better cars, plain and simple. They help the planet, boost the economy, and move us forward as a society. So maybe, just maybe, we can stop arguing about them and start agreeing on something for once. Because the future isn’t red or blue—it’s electric.
I’m interested in hearing your thoughts in the comments below, why do you think EVs are political and should they be?
Well put Jose. I’ve heard the lines and understand why people think of it politically. Tax credit and all that has been political agenda stuff. The reality is even if we were burning oil to make electricity it would be more efficient and it is easier to maintain a power plant than millions of cars. If electric cars weren’t awesome I could understand a push back. Listening to big oil and the news fear selling is making people miss out on something amazing. Appreciate a machine for what it is a machine.
Very well put! Another key benefit of EVs is their serviceability and not just the vehicles themselves needing less service, but also the network that surrounds them. If you build an EV charger in a local community you need someone somewhat local to it’s location to manage and service it. For the vehicles themselves you need a whole new community of new mechanics and local service shops that wouldn’t have otherwise existed and that means more jobs that aren’t easily outsourced.
