Amazon Electric Delivery Van Goes Up in Flames While Parked in Texas, No Injuries Reported
Update: Added some additional photos from the Montgomery County Police Reporter.
An Amazon Electric Delivery Van (EDV) was completely engulfed in flames while parked in Conroe, Texas, according to photos shared on Reddit. The van, part of Amazon’s electric fleet built by Rivian, appears to have caught fire while stationary—though the exact cause of the fire hasn’t been determined yet.
The photos show what’s left of the vehicle. It’s a total loss. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident, and it doesn’t look like any other vehicles were damaged although the building did sustain damage from the looks of it.
At this point, there’s been no official word from Amazon or Rivian about what might’ve caused the blaze. EV fires are rare, but when they happen, people naturally start asking questions. Battery issues? Electrical fault? Something else entirely? We’ll have to wait for a formal investigation to get answers although it does seem like the fire originated from the cargo around which one could assume was caused by a package.
This incident definitely puts a spotlight on the importance of monitoring and managing battery systems in large EV fleets. For now, it’s a dramatic and unfortunate reminder that even parked vehicles aren’t immune to unexpected failures.
